Life at the Hilltop. Maggie is practicing throwing knives along with others at the Hilltop. Enid is up next and throws a bulls-eye. They smile.
We see a montage of Sasha sharpening knives, although elsewhere from Maggie’s group. Meanwhile Maggie has a good ultrasound. Next we see Maggie preparing a list, while Enid brings her a plate of food.
Sasha continues practicing with her knives as others practice. Jesus and Maggie have their heads together as they work in the trailer. Next Sasha is back at the grave sites looking sadly at them.
A little later on Maggie is asleep at the table while Jesus continues to work. He sees Maggie’s asleep and shushes Sasha so as not to awaken Maggie. Jesus has prepared a map of the Sanctuary for Sasha. She’s grateful. Enid looks on.
Later on, Sasha scrutinizes the map, memorizing everything. All of these montages kind of remind me of the last season of Buffy, when all of the slayers-in-training were practicing with knives, stakes, etc. Buffy lost a lot of slayers that last episode, and I think that’s what’s going to happen here too.
Anyway, that night, Maggie sees Daryl sitting alone outside and brings him some food from the BBQ grill. She gently touches his arm, but leaves him alone.
In the dark, Sasha is back at the graves of Abraham and Glenn, mourning.
In the morning a group of Hilltop folk are outside in a group. Gregory pours himself the last of the gin, as he hears the gate open and close. It’s Rosita arriving at Hilltop.
Rosita goes straight to Sasha at the graves (I guess she’s been there all night?). And we’re back to the statement that Rosita needs Sasha’s help, from an episode or two ago.

Maggie apologizes for taking over Jesus’ trailer. He’s okay with it, he lived in a group home. He tells Maggie that he’s had a difficult time getting close to people, making friends, or getting a boyfriend. Maggie smiles at him. I love that he came out to Maggie in such a small moment, rather than it having be some big reveal. Good for Walking Dead!
Anyway, Jesus feels like he belongs at the Hilltop. Sasha overhears their conversation and approaches them. She lets Maggie and Jesus go and then goes inside the trailer and pulls out bullets from a hollowed out book. Jesus and Enid walk in, and Sasha covers by saying she was looking for something to read. Jesus says she can have the bullets.
Jesus says that he knows that Sasha and Rosita are going after Negan, and that they should wait till they have more people. Enid doesn’t think that Maggie knows that Rosita is here. Sasha says she’s still getting ready – but Rosita is going to the Sanctuary with or without her. Sasha doesn’t think that she (Sasha) is so vital to the Hilltop, and so can go with Rosita to take Negan out. And after all, Maggie has all of them.
Jesus wishes she and Rosita wouldn’t go, but he knows he can’t talk her out of it. He asks her to please tell Maggie though, he thinks Sasha owes Maggie that much.
Jesus leaves and Sasha tells Enid that Maggie and Enid are the future of the Hilltop. She gives Enid a cloth bracelet ‘for the baby’ and says maybe Enid can work on it while she’s gone. Enid tells Sasha that she’s going to tell Maggie about Sasha’s plan in a couple of minutes, so do what you need to do with that time.
Then there’s a warning — the Saviors are coming!!
Rosita and Sasha leave through a hidden tunnel that Sasha built in case of situations just as this. Maggie and Daryl run to the root cellar just as the cars roll into the encampment.
Saviors fill Gregory’s lobby. Simon walks in, and Gregory greets him. Gregory wasn’t expecting him so soon, want a glass a gin? Simon says he’s now a tequila man.
Simon says this is a quick visit. Gregory wants to know what he can do for him. It appears that Simon is after Daryl. Meanwhile Daryl and Maggie are still hiding in the cellar.
Rosita and Sasha are out in the open, beyond the Hilltop. And they’re on their way.
Rosita is working on hot wiring a car, and she sees the necklace that she made for Abraham hanging around Sasha’s neck. Sasha looks at it and puts it inside her shirt so Rosita won’t have to see it. The car is dead, they can’t hot wire it, and they move on to find another car they can work on.
They walk through a deserted neighborhood. Sasha wants to know how Rosita learned to make bombs but she gets nothing but attitude from Rosita. Sasha has a plan – they stay out of the Sanctuary, make the hit from the outside, make it clean, but Rosita wants to go in. She thinks that Sasha will miss her shot, and Sasha says she won’t miss. Walkers approach, but they kill them both, no problem. Rosita wants to know if Sasha wants to bail, but Sasha says no, she’s in.
Saviors continue looking around. Enid tries to distract a Savior from the cellar. She’s talking very fast and he tells her to slow down, there’s time. It looks like he’s going to be a reasonable guy for a second there, but then he harasses Enid and takes her knife. Then he opens the cellar door. Maggie and Daryl go back further into the cellar to hide. The Savior examines the vegetables and looks in the direction where Maggie and Daryl are hiding but he doesn’t see them.
Simon approaches the doctor at the Hilltop, and the real purpose for the Savior visit is revealed. Simon is going to steal the doctor away from the Hilltop. Simon tells the doctor that he’s coming with Simon. Dr. Carson says this means his brother (the other Doctor Carson) must be dead. Dr. Carson tells Gregory that he’ll need to make arrangements for his patients. They leave a case of aspirin with Gregory. Yay.
Gregory asks for a word with Simon. They go outside, He tells Simon he’s a can do kind of guy, but Gregory needs to keep his people’s trust, and someone else might want to take over. Simon wants to know who. Gregory is just speaking hypothetically. Simon says if there’s a problem to come and see him. No shenanigans, and Gregory says there will be none. Simon gives Gregory a note with his contact info on it.
The meeting is over.
Back in the root cellar the Savior is gathering vegetables and Daryl raises his knife. Maggie silently stops him, and the Savior leaves. They come out of their hiding place. Daryl says the Savior was going to find us, and Maggie says no he wasn’t.
Maggie says that Daryl hasn’t said anything to her since he got there. Daryl cries and says he’s sorry (for Glenn’s death). Maggie says it wasn’t his fault, and Daryl says it was. Maggie says that Daryl is one of the good things in this world – and Glenn said that too. Maggie says she wanted to kill that Savior too, but we have to win. They share a hug. She asks him to help her win.
Outside the main building of the Hilltop, the Saviors prepare to leave and the members of the Hilltop watch them.
Outside the gates, Rosita and Sasha spy the walker guards at the Sanctuary. Rosita cuts a hole in the fence and starts a fire. It burns, catching the attention of the walkers, and they approach. Rosita and Sasha scale the fence and make it over. They jump in a car, while walkers gain on them. Rosita kills one, starts the car and tells Sasha to get in. They roll over a bunch of walkers and back the car up through the chain link fence.
They drive off as the walkers mill around.
We see the interior of the Sanctuary, with metal covered walkers and Eugene. I love that they have metal walkers so soon after Eugene described them to Negan. Sasha has her rifle sights on all of it. She sits down and tells Rosita that she saw Eugene. Rosita thinks he’s playing some angle in order to stay alive, as she ties knots in a rope. Sasha wants Rosita to teach her those knots, but Rosita says it won’t matter soon. Sasha says it might. Finally Rosita says okay, and shows her how. Sasha goes to try. Rosita gets up and aims through the rifle sights, and sees Eugene.
Sasha says they got lucky when they got Rosita. She knows how to do everything. Rosita tells Sasha Johnny showed her about prepper stuff. Various people showed Rosita how to do things. Guys wanted to protect her, so she rolled with it. They didn’t know that she was picking up everything they were teaching her. The sex was just for fun.
Sasha asks if that’s how it was with him (Abraham). Rosita says no, she fell in with him because he knew that she could handle her shit.
She says the thing that killed her, was that when they got to Alexandria, things weren’t good and then they were. They couldn’t handle living there. Rosita thought she hated Sasha.
She’s never told anyone this stuff and Sasha says she’s glad. Rosita says it’s stupid to waste so much time. Now she won’t get to tell Abraham that she’s happy that he was happy. She wants to know if Sasha was happy with Abraham and Sasha says she was.
Rosita says it wasn’t his time. Sasha says he would have wanted to go out fighting and that that asshole with a bat took that away from Abraham too.
Sasha says that I guess we all want that – for our lives to have a point. She tells Rosita she has her back, and Rosita says she has Sasha’s too.
Sasha takes aim again and sees Eugene and then walkers. She sees trucks drive up with Dr. Carson. She’s bummed that Negan has him because now Maggie doesn’t have a doctor. Then she sees Negan. She doesn’t quite have him in her sights. She can’t get a clear shot because too many others are in the way. Then they hear Eugene on a sat phone giving orders.
Eugene says that Negan will be indisposed in the boudoir tonight, so Rosita and Sasha will be going inside after all. It’s kind of a weird thing to say – so much information. Did Eugene somehow see Rosita and Sasha and is giving them clues? Or is it just Eugene being inappropriate?
Jesus goes to see Gregory. Gregory accuses Jesus of slacking on scavenging. No more freeloading. Jesus says you must be worried if you’re splitting us all up. Gregory says that he looks out for his friends, and that Jesus isn’t one of his friends. Jesus wants to know if Gregory is threatening him. One of the Hilltop guys brings in a bottle of tequila, and Gregory pours himself a glass. Great way to show that Gregory is sucking up to the Saviors.
Daryl comes in and asks where Sasha and Rosita are.
Night time, and Eugene discussed the bad security with a Savior. Guns go off and the Savior is hit. It looks like Rosita and Sasha decided to free Eugene first, and then go after Negan – while still managing to stay outside the compound. Rosita tells Eugene they’re breaking him out but then Eugene says he’s not going with them! He didn’t ask for them to come, so go. He turns and walks briskly away. Rosita says that he’s a sack of shit, and she’s now forced to fight on the inside of the compound. Sasha then locks Rosita out of the Sanctuary and she runs in, and kills a Savior. She tells Rosita that it’s not her time yet. Rosita runs off crying. She sees Daryl with a crossbow.
