Fat Joey’s mangled sandwich on the asphalt, along with Fat Joey’s body. It’s the aftermath of Daryl’s escape. The group of Saviors notice a motorcycle gone and hear the trucks coming. Dwight realizes that Daryl has escaped, and runs back to check the cell where Daryl was being held. It’s empty.
The truck drives up and there is Eugene with a bag over his head. One of the Saviors rips it off as Negan lurks in the background to ‘greet’ him.
Dwight sees the room where Daryl hid out, and dumped his shirt for a new one. Meanwhile, Eugene is being led into a darkened hall, saying ‘please, god no’. A door opens and Eugene is led in by a female Savior. We’re back in the demo room, with books and a fridge and it all looks very homey. The Savior unties his hands and says ‘welcome home’.
Eugene looks at the library. The Savior tells Eugene that Daryl escaped. He doesn’t know where Daryl went. Meanwhile Dwight looks at the note that Sherry wrote telling Daryl ‘to go’. The Savior asks Eugene what he wants to eat. They negotiate the food items. No lobster for Eugene. As if!
Eugene opens the fridge – there’s eggs and veggies. He puts on the music — oh no! Easy Street!! But he kind of bops his head to it.
Dwight continues to look at the note. There’s a knock at the door – must be Negan. Dwight shoves the note into his back pocket. He goes to open the door, but it bursts open and Saviors beat him up. Negan stands in the doorway holding Lucille, watching the beat down transpire.

Dwight is now locked in the very room where Daryl was being held. Negan, on the other side of the door, tells him that Sherry is missing, and that someone let Daryl out. Negan wants to know if Dwight let Daryl out. Did Daryl break Dwight? Negan wants to know who Dwight is. Dwight says he’s Negan.
The door opens. Dwight looks like he’s ready for Negan to bash his head in, but it doesn’t happen. He stands up. Negan says Daryl isn’t like Dwight. Daryl’s emotional. He’s either on his way home, or he’s on his way back here to kill more Saviors. Either way, we’ll find him, says Negan. Does Dwight know where Sherry went? Dwight says yes. Negan tells him to bring her back, we’ll sort it out.
The doctor stitches up Dwight. He thinks that Sherry let Daryl go. He thinks that Sherry has a great heart, and that people like that don’t really exist anymore. The doctor says he’s just trying to help. Dwight grabs a fistful of lollipops and leaves.
Dwight is back in his room, he grabs a jacket and then looks around. He looks at a fish (weird art – who has a fish on their wall?) on the wall, and pulls out a cigarette container and a cigarette. Then he’s on his motorcycle with a crossbow on his back. We see Dwight’s reflection in Fat Joey’s blood on the asphalt.
The female Savior explains to Eugene how they operate. The point system – Eugene eats well. He watches a red-headed kid we’ve seen before steal something, but he doesn’t out the kid. I think the kid is the one who’s dad is now a walker and being kept at the gate. The female Savior offers him a bite of food, and he declines.
Negan discusses using a good cop routine with Eugene. Negan asks what his name is and he says ‘Eugene’. He asks the Saviors who they are, and they say ‘I am Negan’. Negan threatens Eugene with Lucille. He wants to know if Eugene is a smarty pants. Eugene says he is – he makes bullets, and he reads a lot, and he goes on in typical Eugene fashion about how smart he is. He’s scared to death, and going back into his old mode of lying and using big words to bamboozle the people who are much stronger and able than he is. Eugene goes on to say that he was a part of genome project. Negan says okay, crack this without breaking a sweat. How do we keep walkers on their feet since they all disintegrate. Negan needs intact walkers to keep trespassers out.
Eugene says melt down the metal, pour it on the walkers. Make sure to cover their heads, that way they’ll be protected from trauma – and other hostiles and calamities. Negan thinks it’s the coolest thing he’s ever heard. He feels like he should give Eugene a signing bonus. He lets Eugene go. Eugene gives a sly little smile as he walks away. Is he gaming the system or being a turncoat?
Eugene is playing video games with several of Negn’s wives present, including Amber. He’s nervous. One of the wives asks if he’d like a massage, she was a licensed masseuse before – before – you know.
Eugene notes that none of them are there of there of their own volition. They want a good conversation, and one of them asks about the human genome project. Eugene says that they wouldn’t understand what he had to say, and he can’t divulge it anyway, it’s classified. One of the the wives asks if he’s one of those guys who can make a bomb out of bleach and a toothpick. He says no, of course not. He’d need a few other things, and lists them. Ha.
The wives and Eugene go outside with balloons (latex gloves) – he made helium. He’s going to show them the results of his bomb making experiment. He lights a long candle and touches the helium-filled gloves. We get a small explosion. The wives are excited. He looks less than thrilled. I wonder if we’ll get a larger explosion later on in the season.
Dwight rolls up on his motorcycle to a deserted house on the outside, and makes some noise – nope, no walkers present. He walks into the house and picks up a framed picture of him and Sherry, but the glass is shattered. Must be his old house. We hear Sherry in voice over say that ‘if we got separated we’d show up here, and have beer and pretzels.’
He goes into the kitchen and picks up a note. It’s the note that Sherry is reading in voice over. He goes into the bedroom. He picks up rings there. She notes that Dwight has become everything he didn’t want to be, and it’s her fault. She doesn’t think she will make it out here, but being with the Saviors is worse. She hopes he gets away, and that he remembers the good days. She then tells him goodbye.
He pulls out a cigarette with lipstick on it and looks at her rings, and then pulls out his own ring. He puts them all back into the cigarette pack, and leaves some pretzels and beer on the counter. Very sad – and very emotional. So much for not being like Daryl.
Eugene is playing video games again. The wives are back, and they tell him they need his help. They tell him that Amber spends all of her time drinking and crying. She didn’t want this (being one of Negan’s wives), but they signed up for it. Her mom needed the meds. Amber thought that she could live with this, but she can’t. Amber wants to kill herself. Eugene asks if they have any mental health people here, and the wives are like ‘are you kidding?’
Eugene says that killing herself wildly irresponsible. She’ll turn. They tell him that they know Eugene is a good man. He says he’s not. He’s not neutral or chaotic (ha) though. They ask if he can do it. He says he can, ‘no problemo’. Then help us, they say. They continue to wheedle. Finally he asks how much Amber weighs. He says if you get me her weight, he can make what they want – a good sleeping pill that will kill her.
Eugene is in the back of the line in the food prep area. Eugene comes to the front of the line, and asks for some cold pills. The woman in charge hustles him to the back of the line. He goes, but then turns around and asks for her number. He threatens her and wants the cold capsules. She makes an excuse for her slip up but gets the cold capsules. Then he takes all of her drugs, and a bunch of other things, and goes on his way.
Montage time with Eugene making a suicide pill. It’s almost like we’re watching Breaking Bad! Woo hoo!
The doctor asks if Dwight found Sherry. He says that she ran away right into a mess of dead ones, so he made it quick. The doctor says that we don’t get to have big hearts anymore, remember that.
Eugene walks along the cat walk in the big room with the woman Savior. He’s standing where Negan and Carl stood a few episodes ago. A group has gathered down below. Dwight is doing something with the fire, while Negan walks with Lucille. Everyone rises. A group of the wives are in the front row. Negan tells Eugene to pay attention.
Negan hits the doctor with Lucille. He has a note in his hand – it’s a small piece of Sherry’s note where its says ‘goodbye honey’. Negan hits the doctor again. Negan says that the doctor left the door open and let his puppy out. And he did it to look good in Sherry’s eyes. Negan is basing this on Dwight’s word that he found Sherry’s partial note in the doctor’s office. Negan doesn’t believe that Dwight is lying, there’s nothing for Dwight to gain. Negan’s says he knows Dwight – but he doesn’t.
Dwight pulls out a hot iron from the fire. The doctor begs not to be burnt. Eugene doesn’t want to watch, but the woman makes him. The doctor cowards out and confesses he did it, don’t burn me, I’m sorry. I did it, I did it all. Negan says that’s all you had to say. Eugene watches. Negan grabs the doctor and throws him into the furnace! Everyone is shocked. Amber cries and one of the wives runs off. No one looks at the body in the furnace.
Negan tells Dwight that Sherry was one of his favorites and that he’s sorry. Dwight says he’s not.
Back to the video games and a knock on the door. Two of the wives walk in, but not Amber. They ask how he is. He says alright. They ask if he made the pills. He says yes, but you can’t have them. He tells them not to insult his intelligence. He believes the pills are for Negan, and not Amber. They threaten him. He says if they tell on him it would be a tactical error on their part. Negan will believe him over them. They’re replaceable, but he isn’t. They call him a coward, and he says ‘that’s a correct assessment.’
Negan knocks on the door as Eugene eats pickles. He opens the door and Negan looks upset. In the room, Negan asks how he likes it here. Are the Saviors doing right by Dr. Smartypants? Negan says he needs Eugene to understand something. He tells Eugene not to be scared. Just answer one question – who are you? Before Negan can even finish his question, Eugene blurts out that he’s Negan. ‘I’m Negan. I’m utterly, completely stone-cold Negan. I was Negan before I even met you I just needed to meet you properly to know.’
Later, outside, Eugene directs people how to cover the walkers with molten metal. Dwight walks up to Eugene as they stand by the railing. He tells Dwight he’s Negan ‘just like you’. He tells Dwight, I’m Eugene, you’re Dwight. We’re Negan.’ Dwight says ‘yeah’. Wow, that was a coded conversation if ever I heard one. Are they both not Negan, and they confessed that to each other?
