Morgan and members of the Kingdom, including the King, Jerry, Richard, and Diane, are outside waiting in the designated parking lot for the Saviors to arrive. A female walker shambles out of the nearby woods and Diane shoots it, remarking that ‘my sister had that dress’. Richard tells her not to think about it. Jerry asks, the king, ‘now?’, and the King says yes. They open the trunk and we see plastic tanks of gas. One of the Saviors says it looks light, but it turns out all the goods are there.
Then Jared, the Savior with the long blond hair, picks a fight with Richard. They aim their guns at each other in a stand off. Gavin, the lead Savior, doesn’t want to deal with this, and King Ezekiel tells Richard to hand his gun over to the Savior. He eventually does. Jared takes it. The two glare at each other until Richard makes a snarky comment to Jared, which prompts a fight. Morgan whacks Jared with his staff before Jared can do anything. That turns into a fight and Jared smacks Morgan with his staff. Benjamin hits Jared with his own staff. Gavin and Ezekiel discuss how this can’t keep happening, and it has to stop. Gavin knows it isn’t Ezekiel’s fault, but he doesn’t care. Make all of this stop. Or else. This is a scene to show us how Ezekiel must know that the current peace can’t last.
They get back to the kingdom, and Ezekiel praises Benjamin for his quickness with the staff. He also tells him not to seek out fights. He turns to Richard and says they will speak later. He tells Jerry to come along.
Daryl and Morgan talk. Daryl comments that Morgan is bleeding from his ear. What’s going on? Daryl expresses his faith that if Carol were here, she wouldn’t sit for this. And Morgan says that’s why she left.
Richard is practicing his archery when Daryl walks up. He tells Daryl that he needs to practice since the Saviors are going to take away his guns fairly soon. He hands Daryl a crossbow. Daryl asks why? Richard tells him that they need his help. Daryl picks it up and aims at the bulls-eye. So nice that Daryl has a crossbow!!
Credits
Richard and Daryl are at Richard’s hidden camper grabbing weapons. Voice over of Richard telling Daryl that we have to move now – all of the groups against the Saviors. They have to act soon.
Richard and Daryl walk along a path, by a cemetery. We see overhead shots of jack-knifed trucks, and cars. Richard has a plan. He wants to kill a bunch of Saviors. He left a path to the weapons cache, to the cabin, and to the woman – who they’re going to frame, and get this battle going. Daryl wants to know her name. Richard keeps talking about his plan and how they kill a bunch of Saviors, although it will make them angry and they’ll lose people. Daryl wants to know her name. Richard finally says ‘Carol’. He hopes Daryl doesn’t know her, but she’s going to die. Daryl now wants no part of this plan. Richard doesn’t care about Carol, but Daryl tells her to stay away from Carol.
Two cars roll up, and Richard says it’s them – the Saviors. Richard is going to go for it, but Daryl overpowers him as the trucks drive by. Daryl doesn’t want to set in motion any plan that will hurt Carol. Richard aims his gun at Daryl while Daryl aims his crossbow at Richard. Richard still wants to ambush the Saviors. Richard wants more people to live, and that what they have to do requires sacrifice, one way or another. Carol’s toast. Daryl says ‘you don’t know me’, and Richard replies that Carol wants to die. Daryl says if anything happens to Carol, anything, he will kill Richard. Richard says ‘I would die for the kingdom’, and Daryl responds ‘why don’t you’, and leaves.
In the junk yard – wherever that is, we hear metallic grinding sounds. A door opens and it’s the large group of people who captured Rick and Co. They file into the center of the ‘room’, surrounded by junk and old cars. Eventually Rick and Co walk in while more of these people keep filing in behind them. There seems to be no end of them, but it’s really that they’re walking in circles, some kind of formation. None of them say anything as they move into their formation with Rick and group in the center of a wide circle.
They ask if it’s a collective or if one leads? Rick says hi to the leader – who says we own your lives, do you want to buy them back.?He accuses her of having Gabriel and he wants to see him before they can talk. Someone walks off to go get Gabriel. He looks unharmed. The leader wants to know about the boat stuff. Rick explains about the Saviors and that they’ll come looking for Rick and his group. Rick says they either kill you or own you. Rick says they’re a way out – join us in fighting them. The leader says no. The keepers move Gabriel and then they start fighting. They all fight.
Gabriel takes one of the women hostage. He explains about the Saviors and then the leader signals to stop. Gabriel says that fighting on Rick’s team will get them far. He offers to show them what they can do – so that this new group will join Rick’s group. The leader asks two of her minions to show something to Rick.
Michonne takes Rick’s hand and he tells her it will be okay.
Gabriel takes Rosita and Aaron to the side. Rosita remarks that these people are their new best friends, but she says it in an ironic wy.
Jadis, the leader, takes Rick ‘up up up’ to the top of the junk heap. Good view. It looks like a series of mazes made out of junk. She tells Rick they’ve been there since the beginning. She remarks that times changes, maybe they’ll change. Maybe. She needs to know if Rick is worth it – and promptly pushes him down into the junk heap.
Michonne screams ‘what did you do? She can see Rick through a hole in some metal piece of junk. He tells her he’s alright. Then a walker covered in metal an with spikes sticking out of his body makes his way towards Rick. Rick’s shocked. This reminds me of Kirk and the Gorn. ‘Yes, yes. Will he have the time?’ The walker attacks and Rick’s hand gets impaled on a spike. Ouch! Michonne tries to see what’s going on but can’t quite. Rick is getting jabbed with the spikes and he keeps trying to climb out but keeps sliding back down on the plastic bags that help make up the wall. Michonne says to use them, so he does. He pulls the bags of junk on top of the walker. Then he grabs something sharp and kills the walker. He looks up to Jadis and says ‘do you believe us now? Tell us what you want and you’ll get it.’ In answer a rope is thrown down to him and he climbs back up, with his bloody hand and leg.
Jadis looks at him and says ‘guns. A lot’. She’ll join the fight. These people sure don’t talk much. Woah! Looks like a blooper – plane in the air!!
Rick and Jadis discuss terms – 1/2 or 1/3. They finally reach a deal. They shake on it. Winslow was the name of the robot junk walker. She tells Rick to go but the deal expires soon. All of her minions drop their weapons to Rick and file on out. Rick comes out all bloodied and says ‘we have a deal’. Happy music and a hug from Michonne.
Carol opens her front door to King Ezekiel, Jerry, Diane, and a random guy.
Carol says ‘hey, what are you doing here? I thought I said no visitors’. Jerry smiles and hands her a cobbler, which she grudgingly takes. They all take off and she begins to read a book, when there is another knock at the door. Sure a lot of foot traffic in her tiny neck of the woods.
Sh looks annoyed as she goes to open the door. It’s Daryl. She’s awestruck. We’re awestruck. Finally! She goes to him an gives him a big hug and they both begin to cry. He tells her that Jesus took him to the kingdom. He asks her ‘why’d you go? She says she had to. They’re still on the porch, not inside. Very touching reunion.
Gabriel says he head something on watch, and the junkyard people took him. It was all about the supplies.
Rick said that at least Rick was able to find him. Gabriel is happy that Rick didn’t think that Gabriel up and left them. It meant a lot, and he thanks Rick. He asks Rick what made him smile? Rick said that someone showed me that enemies can become friends. Again Gabriel smiles because he knows Rick was talking about him.
Rosita wants to go off on her own, and Tara is wondering what is Rosita’s problem, they’re not looking for a fight right now. Rosita is definitely emo, but she watched Negan kill Glenn, Abraham, Spencer, and Olivia (Negan didn’t kill her personally but he was responsible for her death), so Rosita isn’t in any mood for Tara right now.
Jadis walks up to Rick and says ‘guns. Soon.’ The guy minion says ‘or else’. Man.
Rick takes a wire cat from the dump and gives it to Michonne.
Carol is sitting by the fireplace with a fire going. Many candles are lit. She says she couldn’t lose them, any of them. Daryl is sitting at the table. She continues, I couldn’t kill them – she could, but she wouldn’t. If she did, there wouldn’t be anything left of her after that. She asks if the Saviors came. Daryl says yes. Carol asks if anyone got hurt. Is everybody okay? Did the Saviors – is everyone back home okay?
Daryl is silent. She says ‘Daryl’. He says they came, and they made a deal, and everyone is alright. She doesn’t tell her about Glenn and Abraham. Wow, he flat out lied to her. He looks conflicted, and asks if there’s anything to eat around here. She’s prepared food. Daryl asks if Ezekiel is okay and she replies she thinks he is. Happy music for the two of them. They’re both quiet as he eats. Daryl walks out into the night and gives Carol a hug before he leaves. He tells her to watch out for herself, and then goes. Carol goes back into her house and closes the door.
Shiva is in her cage while Daryl watches her from outside. Morgan says Ezekiel will be impressed. Daryl says anyone who has a pet tiger can’t be all bad, and Carol likes him. Morgan explains that Morgan didn’t tell Daryl about Carol because it’s what she wanted. Daryl tells Morgan that he has to get the kingdom to help fight Negan, we need to. Morgan tells him he can’t. Daryl says whatever the hell Morgan is holding onto it’s gone. Wake up.
Morgan says the two of them are the same. Daryl says no, but Morgan says you didn’t tell Carol otherwise she’d be here. He’s right about that.
Shiva brushes against Daryl and she nudges him with her head. Daryl says he’s going back to Hilltop in the morning. Love that Daryl and Shiva are friends.
Morning, and Daryl is on his way to Hilltop while Morgan and Richard watch. Daryl’s got his cross bow.
