9. Ouroboros, Season Two, Episode Three. Original Air Date = April 24, 2016

We hear muted screaming in the background, and see debris floating in the ocean water. As the camera pans back, we can see that it is the remains of a plane wreck. We see Alex from Flight 462 surface from underneath the water, then she dives looking for something, and she surfaces. She calls out for Jake and sees him floating with some wreckage. He’s severely burned on his head and face.  There are a few other survivors and they all end up on one of the yellow life rafts from the plane. Right off the bat one of the guys who joins them on the raft has a big bite on his ankle. They beat him in the head and over the side he goes. Sometime later Alex is trying to help Jake by putting alcohol on his wound to disinfect it. He screams. Night time, the survivor in the suit tries to kill Jake but Alex stops him by hitting him hard in what looks like the throat, and then tosses him over the side of the raft. That’s some guilt she’s carrying around from taking Jake’s mom’s seat on the plane.

The survivor guy in the stripey shirt tells Alex that they have to get to land. They can’t stay on the raft forever.  He tells her that she should consider what Jake really needs – which is to be put out of his misery. It really doesn’t look like Jake is going to make it. Stripey shirt guy tells her to put Jake out of his misery. Or I …. he stops speaking. Jake says, ‘it’s okay. It’s okay.’ He’s giving up. He knows how severely injured he is.

Back on the yacht – Strand is talking to someone on his sat phone. ‘Pick up’, he says quietly, but urgently. It sounds like someone picked up on the other end, but it’s hard to tell. He asks if someone is there, gets no response, and keeps on talking. He tells that person that he’s coming. We really don’t know if anyone is there, or what condition they are in.

Madison and Travis are in bed. Neither of them are sleeping. She comments that Travis can’t sleep. He looks worried and she asks if he’s here with her. He is. They’re cuddling and Madison makes her move. They begin to have sex and then they hear scary boat noises. They both get up.

A short time later, they’re in the living area: something is blocking the water intake, but it’s night and it’s dark. Someone is going to have to dive into the water and see what’s going on. They’re worried that if they don’t do it now, things might get worse by morning. Strand is quite insistent that they do it now, and Madison asks him if he has his flippers ready. Travis says he’ll go. Madison is not happy.

Travis explores underwater with his flashlight to see if he can figure out what’s wrong. He has to get underneath the boat to check the intake.  He sees plane debris all around him, and there blocking the intake is stripey shirt guy. He’s now a walker. We didn’t see it, but I guess Alex killed him so that he couldn’t kill Jake. Now he’s clogging up the intake system on the yacht.

Travis is back inside, and he and Strand discuss cleaning the intake parts. It’s really disgusting, all backed up with goo and small body parts. Travis says he has to pull the guy out of the intake and then see if the filtration system still works.  Strand wants to know how long it will take, and Travis says all day. Strand doesn’t have all day and wants it done sooner. Travis says, hey, I’m not the help, and Strand sarcastically apologizes, calling Travis a ‘skilled technician’ and to please get it fixed ASAP.

Ofelia is cleaning her gunshot wound. Daniel comes in to see.  He notes that the wound is infected, but she’s out of antibiotics. Daniel feels her head and says she’s warm. She says she can ask Madison for stronger meds and he says no, they’ll take care of themselves. Ofelia asks what she’s supposed to do, and she’s pretty sure Walgreens is closed. He says they can’t show their weaknesses, and if Madison had to choose between Alicia and Ofelia, she’d choose Alicia.

Up on deck, Alicia sees the shore and it’s covered with luggage and other detritus from the plane wreck.  Alicia wants to go and scavenge what they can. Chris and Nick want to help too. Madison is not keen on this plan, and asks ‘what if something should happen?’ Alicia says that it’s already happened, and for Madison to stop putting them at the kids table. Travis comes on deck and they argue with him as well. One of them says ‘we aren’t asking for permission’. Daniel says he’ll go with them, and eventually Madison and Travis give in.

Madison says to look for warm clothes. Daniel says we’ll be warmer once we get to Mexico. Madison wonders why Mexico, and he tells her that Strand has maps in a locked bin, and that’s where they’re going. He suggests Madison talk to Strand about it, rather than Daniel discussing it with Strand because she’s more diplomatic than he is. It will work out better this way.

The smaller group rafts over to the beach to start collecting what they can from the scattered luggage. They wander about and find part of the plane.  There are a cople of burned dead bodies, but they aren’t walkers, or ant least don’t appear to be. Not clear why they aren’t reanimated. They look intact. Daniel tells Nick, Alicia, and Chris to be quick and to not leave his sight. Off they go. Daniel stays by the plane and keeps an eye out.

On the yacht, Travis goes back into the water, and Madison watches the plane wreck site – and her kids – with binoculars.  She periodically looks over the side of the boat trying to see if she can see Travis.

Back on the beach. The scavenger hunt begins. Chris goes off by himself (of course), as the others are picking through the luggage. Chris disappears behind a dune, and out of sight from Daniel.

Madison on the boat. She continues to look at the beach wreckage and then back over the side of the boat. Lots of clear blue bubbles and then the bubbles turn red. Is it Travis’ blood or is it from someone else?  Stripey shirt guy floats to the surface with a knife in his eye. Must be Travis’ work, and the blood is from stripey shirt guy. Travis surfaces and looks fine.

Nick is going through luggage, as is Alicia. He gives Alicia a big, white hat. She has on a kimono and she tosses him a flight captain’s shirt. They laugh at the clothes.

Chris finds another section of the fuselage. He goes to investigate. He peers into the windows and then goes toward the front that has been sheared off. We might be looking at a midsection of the plane. This can’t be a good idea. Fortunately, he picks up a sharp piece of metal that he can use as a weapon. Good deal, he’s not totally stupid. He carefuly walks inside. We see a lot of empty seats and then a few walkers strapped in their seats. They’re trapped. There’s a guy who might be dead and might be alive – his eyes are closed. After taunting a belted-in walker (with the oxygen mask still attached to his face) Chris hits it in the head to kill it, and looks at he other guy. He’s strapped in, but he suddenly opens his eyes and begs Chris for help.

Madison says to Strand –  Mexico?  They fight. He says they don’t trust each other, they’re not friends. She grills him, and finally he tells her there are hills outside of Baja, and in those hills he has a safe house. Reinforced concrete, gardens, etc. , but he only has a small window of time to get there. He tells her that strangers are not to be trusted. She tells him they have to have some kind of arrangement in order for all of them to survive. He agrees. So maybe they’re moving to some kind of agreement here. She goes to leave and then turns back and tells him that if he looks at her family wrong she’ll throw him over board. He says ‘you’re not a killer’. She just looks at him and says nothing. So yeah, maybe she’s not a killer – yet.

Daniel and Nick are looking at luggage. Daniel finds a rosary and Nick finds a blue t-shirt that has Daniel’s name written all over it. Daniel says it’s bad luck to steal from the dead. Nick catches him looking for drugs for Ofelia. Nick tells him the drugs he found are useless.

Daniel looks up and doesn’t see Chris so he yells for him!  Because that’s a good idea. Man!

Back at the plane, Chris tries to free the man. He succeeds in unstrapping him, which causes the man to fall to the ground. Once the man is on his side, Chris can see the horrible wound in his back. Bones are sticking out. lt looks like he was impaled with something, not necessarily a walker bite, but it’s hard to tell. The man begs for help. Chris gives him water (which he doesn’t want – which makes me think it’s a walker bite), while a walker makes sounds in the background.

Chris decides the best way to help the man is to bash his head in. He hits him twice, but the man is still alive so he hits him many times more, until finally the job is done. Chris is not at all happy about it. He’s killed a person, not a walker. Daniel keeps yelling for Chris.

Alicia and Nick are wondering where Daniel and Chris went. She’s worried. They get up to go, and then Nick finds a black bag filled with drugs – useful antibiotic drugs. He grabs handfuls of the packages.

Travis and Madison are down in the engine room looking at the filtration system. Travis is frustrated and Madison tells him about the place in Baja. Travis asks ‘and he just came to this?’ She says we should trust him. Travis asks if they have a choice and she says no. He says ‘it’s not a choice then.’ He also describes Strand’s safe house as a ‘magic house’ – skepticism in his voice. They argue a bit and he goes back to work.

Daniel sees someone running toward him, down one of the sand dunes, and thinks it’s Chris, but it’s not, it’s Alex. She yells – ‘they’re coming! Run!’ And an army of walkers is indeed coming. They are lining the crest of the dune. He cocks his gun, but that one gun isn’t going to do it. I wonder if these are people who were on the plane.

Nick hears a walker and goes to investigate. The walker is in a pit of some kind and buried up to his waist in sand. Crabs are eating him, and in turn he eats the crabs. Ouroboros. Nick is oddly fascinated and then the ground crumbles away and he falls into the pit. Now he has to fight the walker. He finally grabs a knife he had in his pocket and kills the walker. He rests for a bit but another walker falls into the pit and so he’s going to have to fight that one too.

Alicia finds the plane and Chris. She sees blood on him and asks if he’s hurt . He says no. They hear a gun shot and take off. It’s Daniel shooting walkers.

Madison hears the gunshot too and looks and sees the infected. So many! She yells to Strand that they have to get moving.

Travis rushes back down stairs to try to get the boat going again.

Daniel shoots walkers, and the rest of them fight as well. Where’s Nick? No one knows yet. Alex kills a walker by pounding a knife into its head.

Goo in the intake thingie for Travis. He pulls out a hand and then the system clears up – the sludgy brown liquid turns clear. He fixed the plumbing!  I wonder if he saved them $300 like he did in the first episode.

Alicia fights, as does Chris. But there are so many of them. They’re backed into a corner and still no Nick.

Nick shows up covered in blood from the walkers he had to kill in the pit. He clears a section for them so they can get away. The walkers don’t attack him, and he notices this. They kind of ignore him. He’s figuring out that if you’re covered with walker guts, they ‘think’ you’re one of them. He goes face to face with a walker. They growl at each other. Nick processes what he just saw as they go back to the raft.

Alicia is worried that Nick was bitten but he wasn’t. They hug, but they have to go.

Alex says they have to make a stop. She wants to get Jake and the yellow life raft. Where she had that stowed, I don’t know. And for that matter, how did she get to the top of that sand dune? And did she leave Jake baking in the sun while she was gone?

Back on the yacht. Strand sees them all on the Abigail’s raft, alongside the life raft. He’s not happy. They get on the yacht. Daniel tells Madison he almost lost the kids, but she’s okay, they’re all safe and sound. Strand won’t let Alex and Jake on board. Madison tells the kids they’re going to Baja until things clear up. Nick says it won’t ever clear up. Travis and Madison back up Strand on Strand’s ‘no more people’ policy. Finally Travis suggests that they tow Alex and Jake to San Diego.  Travis tells Alex they can give her food and water but she can’t go on the yacht. They silently load up the raft with supplies. Alicia thinks they should bring them on the yacht but Madison says this is the best I can do. Alex can’t even believe that this is up for debate.

The yacht takes off, and Travis and Madison watch Alex as they tow her. Strand paces and watches from the control center on top.

Nick sits next to Ofelia and gives her the rosary that Daniel first found. She says he smells like death.

Alex is still trying to help Jake. She tells him that it won’t hurt any worse than it is now. This is the worst that it will be. Every day will be a little better. Madison looks at her as they tow her. Strand comes running down the stairs and without a word he cuts the rope that was connecting the Abigail with Alex’s life raft. Alex is now adrift.  Without a word, Strand goes back up to the control center. Madison is left looking up at him.
