Morgan is looking at a horse, happy that the horse is alive. While Morgan is happy about the horse, the impaled Savior guy from Carol’s fight is sneaking up on him.
Next it cuts to a random guy running through the woods. We don’t know who he is or who he’s running away from.
Meanwhile, back at Alexandria, Enid and Carl are getting ready for an attack.
Back to random guy running, surrounding by Saviors.
Carl is saying he’s not going to allow the Saviors to get Enid.
Rick, Sasha, Abraham and Eugene all getting into the RV to — leave.
Enid says she thinks Carl wants an attack. Enid says they have to help Maggie, who might be having a miscarriage.
Eugene says he’ll help and gets into the RV.
Back to Saviors and random guy. Maybe he’s from Hilltop? Don’t know. The Saviors are taunting the guy, who’s on the ground. Tough guy Savior is saying you wanted to fight, so this is how it’s going to be. I guess the random guy wanted to take on the Saviors?
Enid doesn’t want to do as Carl says, she wants to go too, so he tricks her to go into the closet and then he locks her in.
Cuts to random guy, who is now getting roundly beaten up by the group of Saviors.
Enid asks ‘What am I supposed to do if you don’t come back?’ Carl says ‘just survive somehow’. That was an eye roll of a line.
Now Aaron wants to go into the RV – so everyone is leaving! They’re all worried about an attack, and everyone is leaving. This makes no sense. Gabriel says they have people on all of the platforms. And he asks Rick if he’s okay with leaving Gabriel in charge of security while Rick is gone. Rick is okay with it. Spencer wants to make a deal too. Gabriel is on the platform as the RV drives off.
Morgan is riding the horse in a town and sees lots of dead people – all fairly fresh. And he sees Carol! Carol is curled into a ball on a porch, and looks bad. Morgan is happy he found her. She’s badly hurt.
Back to the Saviors who are now dragging random guy into the street. The Savior says they’re going to make an example out of him. And they kick him again. They have a barricade with cars. Looks like they’re probably waiting for the RV or some other car to come driving by.
Rick and co are taking Maggie to Hilltop to see the obstetrician and hopefully save her and her baby. Rick is telling her that so long as they all stay together they can do anything. Carl is in the RV too.
Morgan bandages up Carol’s gun shot wound. He says that Carol needs antibiotics and stitches. They’re in a library. He’ll check the perimeter, make sure everything is okay. Then in the morning they’ll go back, okay? Carol says ‘no’. Oh, Carol.
Back to the RV – Abraham is driving, and Sasha is in the passenger side. They come up to the roadblock with the Saviors and random guy, who was kicked to the ground.
Rick comes out of the RV with his gun but in a surrendering fashion. He’s out there with Carl, Aaron, Sasha, Abraham, and Eugene. I guess they left Maggie alone in the RV.
Rick says they can make a deal, right here, right now. The Savior says that they have to give them all of their stuff, and they’ll have to kill one of them.
Rick says no deal.
Savior guy starts shaking a canister of something and sprays random guy on the ground. The Savior say that their deal is the only deal.
Rick asks if the Saviors want to make it their last day on earth? They say no, but it could be your last day on earth too. Be nice to the people in the RV. Be nice to each other, because you never know.
The Saviors kick random guy some more.
Abraham backs up the RV away from the road block.
Weird hallucinogenic scene. It’s dark, and we see pinpricks of light.
In the RV, Carl watches out the window, and he asks Aaron why he’s there. Aaron says he owes her, meaning Maggie. He asks Carl why he’s there, and Carl says he owes them (not sure who he means).
Eugene is looking at a map, and finding a way to route around the Saviors. Off they go.
Carol is now standing up, while Morgan plays with a first aid kit. He says that there’s a posse looking for her. Rick is on his way.
Carol asks him if he thinks Carol is being dramatic? Morgan says people care about her. Carol says she cares about them. Morgan says that’s why she has to be there. Carol explains that you have to kill for the people you care about, and she can’t do that anymore. She gives him a hard time. They have a philosophical argument. Morgan says she’ll die if she stays out there. Carol aims a gun at him and says to go. She puts it down though, and says for him to go.
Carol just can’t kill anymore. Morgan doesn’t exactly know what to do. He hears a disturbance outside.
Abraham and Sasha — he kind of wants to know if she’d have a baby. He wants to…. Sasha looks a little bemused. They both look a little hopeful. Sun is streaming in. Another roadblock. Abraham says ‘bitch nuts’.
Carl wants to end it, meaning he just wants to kill all of the Saviors. Rick says no, not now. Odds are not good for them. Rick tells Abraham to drive slow. Warning shots fired. Looks like an ambush. The RV might be trapped.
Morgan is outside and we see a lot of detritus – shoes, overturned tables, chairs. Looks like a fight was had. He hears walker sounds. It’s kind of foggy. He looks up and sees a guy hanging, who is now a walker.
There are a lot of walkers at the gate. Most are relatively fresh, as is the guy hanging from the platform apparatus. This is probably where the random guy came from. If so, it means that the Saviors killed all of his group. Maybe they tried to resist and this is the result? If so, it doesn’t bode well for Rick and company.
Morgan goes up to cut the walker down. He takes precautions, and stabs him in the head first, and then he cuts him down. The guy thuds to the ground.
Morgan goes back into a dilapidated library. He’s looking for Carol, but she has clearly left the scene. Hey the horse is still alive! Morgan gets back on and gallops out away from the massing walkers.
The RV is driving down the road, and they’re discussing that the road blocks are with different people, same group though – and they dive up to another roadblock. Abraham says that whatever group this is, they have numbers. Looks like they’ve been road blocked with a chain of walkers. Seriously, the walkers are all chained together and they stretch across the road.
Abraham says a Red Rover like that takes people, again noting that there must be a lot of Saviors. They notice one walker has some of Michonne’s dreds, and another walker has been punctured by one of Daryl’s crossbow arrows. So now the group knows that Daryl and Michonne have been captured.
Then there are gun shots! They are out in the open and being shot at by hidden Saviors. They’re killing walkers as best they can so they can get through the road block. They do.
Back in the RV, Maggie is burning up with fever. Rick looks at the side of the RV – it’s full of bullet holes. Good thing none of those bullets hit Maggie.
They keep driving and run into another road block! Man, those Saviors know all of the roads. This roadblock is bigger than the rest of the them. Lots of people!
Back to Morgan on his horse looking for Carol. She can’t have gone far. He sees a body, beaten in the head. He sees the rosary. Carol is now at a farmhouse. Maybe where they were last week?
Carol is wandering around. She runs into walkers and has to fight them even though she’s wounded. Guy with the rosary (a Savior), who was impaled by Carol, now has a gun on Carol. They’re both wounded, but Carol is on the ground. He tells her that each breath is getting harder – I guess for both of them. He tells her that she is going to lie there, and she is going to die slow, in revenge for killing his friends. He shoots her in the arm. After he shoots her, he says that’s a pretty good start.
Same hallucinogenic scene – rays of light from a box. I think it’s Daryl and Michonne trapped in a box. It kind of reminds me of that Isaac Asimov story, Nightfall, where they try to simulate what stars might look like, so they get into a dark box and poke holes in it. The pinpricks of light represent stars.
Impaled Savior guy is looking at Carol ,and she’s smiling. He’s bummed that Carol doesn’t seem to care if she lives or dies. Kind of takes away his fun. She really doesn’t care and tells him so. He shoots her again in the leg. He asks her if she’s suffered enough and she says ‘no, probably not’.
Impaled guy loses interest. He turns his back and begins to walk off. Carol wants him to kill her. She says he doesn’t get to walk away. She keeps haranguing him. He finally comes back to finish her off, and Morgan is there, also with a gun. He tells impaled Savior guy to drop the gun. He doesn’t, of course, and Morgan shoots him multiple times. Morgan is not happy to have killed this guy – breaking his code. He walks over to Carol. She asks Morgan to let her go and Morgan says ‘it’s not your time.’
Two guys come up to Morgan. One is on a horse and they’re both wearing body armor. I think they’re from the Kingdom (woo hoo!). Morgan says Carol needs help. The guys say they’re going to help. One of the Kingdom guys shakes hands with Morgan.
Meanwhile, back at the RV. Abraham says they are up shit creek with open mouths. The road block is a bunch of logs – like a wall of logs. No way they are getting through that. All of a sudden the original random guy who was kicked to the ground, is dropped over the side of the bridge, hung. He dies. The logs behind them are now on fire.
The Saviors tell them to leave. They run back to the RV to try to leave. We’ll see if they can. At this point, we’re not optimistic. The Saviors are clearly toying with them.
The RV backs up. Eugene says the Saviors are behind and ahead of them. Eugene says the Saviors are waiting on the RV. But they don’t how many people are in the RV and it’s getting dark.
Eugene gives Rick a recipe about how to make bullets. Rick is amazed and says thank you. They’re getting ready to take Maggie out by hand, and carry her in a stretcher to Hilltop, while Eugene stays with the RV. Everyone says their goodbyes to Eugene. It’s clear that everyone, including Eugene, thinks that Eugene will be a sacrifice and not make it out alive. Abraham says Eugene was always a survivor, they just didn’t know it. They hug. Eugene even gets sad goodbye music.
Eugene is at the wheel on his own, in the dark. He starts up the RV and begins to drive.
A walker comes up to the little group as they make their way on foot to Hilltop. Carl kills it and they keep going. Then we hear the whistling again that we heard when Glenn’s group got captured. Rick’s group is now surrounded in the woods. Lights flash on them – they’re caught. No one is going anywhere. The group is surprised by the size of Negan’s group of Saviors. The lighting and being surrounded in the dark was very reminiscent of a scene in Lost, where the Others surrounded a group of the Losties. And this scene felt recycled. Too bad.
The camera pans around and we see the sheer size of Negan’s group. Rick’s group is in trouble, and Rick looks freaked out – as he should. Eugene is on his knees, bound. The guy who has been taunting them from before says to give up the weapons, which they do. The Savior now wants all of them on their knees. They put Maggie on the ground. Then they all get on their knees, even Maggie. She looks horrible.
Back to the people in the box. Dwight has appeared. They’re opening the door, and there is Daryl, Michonne, Rosita and Glenn. All present and accounted for. They have a full boat!
The guy says – okay, let’s meet the man. Out comes Negan. With his bat. Great entrance!
He surveys the group. Who is the leader?, Negan asks.
“Hi, You’re Rick, right? I’m Negan”. He’s not happy that Rick killed a bunch of his people. It’s not cool.
Rick looks very afraid – as he should.
Negan begins to explain the new world order – ‘give me your shit or I will kill you.’ Negan tells Rick that Rick works for Negan now. Negan says they are not safe – not even close. Nice call back from when Rick said the same thing to Carl quite some time ago. Negan wants half of their stuff. Better not fight back! And we think of random guy hanging off of the bridge and the dead people at the library. Negan keeps waving Lucille (the bat) in Rick’s face. There will be punishment now. One of Ricks’ people has to die.
Who’s it going to be? He saunters over to each person, getting ready to choose someone. He tells Carl to lighten up. Glenn tries to go to Maggie but gets pulled away. Rick looks dazed. They’re drawing this way out. Who is Negan going to kill? Now Negan recognizes that Carl is Rick’s son. He calls Carl a future serial killer. Negan simply can’t decide who to kill – so many choices! Eeney meeny miney moe. Finally, Negan chooses his victim and swings the bat. It’s a point of view shot from the victim’s POV. We see blood flowing but as the victim would see it. And then that’s it. Someone is beaten, but we don’t see who. We’ll have to wait for next season. The end.
