Various blood covered implements including Carol’s rosary, and what looks like Morgan’s staff.
After the commercial, we see what looks like a flashback. Carol is sewing repairs on a jacket at her house. She’s also packing a bunch of plastic wrapped food into a backpack. As Tobin walks in she casually hides the pack under the bed. Tobin says he’s happy to see her.
Tobin went to the infirmary for a cut on his hand. And now that Denise is gone, the infirmary so quiet. Carol kind of listens to him, and nods at appropriate times, but her mind is elsewhere. She’s probably thinking about her impending trip to wherever.
Carol tells Tobin she’s worried about Tara when she finds out about Denise. Carol kisses Tobin and the camera focuses on the bed. There is a short time shift and Tobin is sleeping and Carol silently leaves the bedroom with her pack. It’s dark and night time.
Montage of Alexandrian life: Sasha is on the platform tower, and Rosita is at the gate. Carl is in the armory looking at Ron’s gun. He takes it. Maggie and Glenn are in the shower. Maggie has bruises on her back and sides, Glenn sees them and this makes him sad. Maggie has a worried look on her face. Daryl is on his bike. He sits looking at the Dennis keyc hain in his hands. He’s probably feeling bad about Denise. Abraham meets Sasha at the end of her shift. She gives him a cigar and he takes over her post on the platform. Rosita looks sullen as she watches the whole encounter. Michonne and Rick are waking up in bed. Michonne grabs an apple and eats it and shares it with Rick. They both look happy. They remark that it’s great that Jesus came through with the food.
Michonne needs to get up and help Maggie. Maggie has a schedule that they’re on and she doesn’t want to annoy a pregnant woman. Michonne adds that Maggie is worried about an attack. Rick is not so worried, but he doesn’t want to lose what they have again.
Outside Michonne meets up with Glenn and Maggie. They’re deciding where to stash guns all over Alexandria ‘just in case.’ This seems wise.
Daryl takes off on his bike, so Glenn and Rosita go after him.
Tobin meets up with Rick and hands him Carol’s goodbye note. They discuss. They don’t know where Carol went. Tobin notices that a car is gone. Maybe Carol took it?
Morgan says he’ll go look for her and Rick decides to go with him.
Carol’s in a car with many pointy things sticking out. It looks very Mad Max apocalyptic, and aimed at killing walkers. She comes up to something blocking the road, and eventually we see that it’s a truck. The truck comes at her, and the inhabitants shoot at her and blow out her tires. She’s stuck. It looks like there are three guys in the back of the truck with guns, plus the driver. Carol pulls out her rosary.
Carol says ‘please don’t hurt me’. They tell her to come out of the car. She does with hands raised. She calls the walkers Dead Ones.
They want to know who she is. She says her name is Nancy from Montclair and she’s no one and she’s just out. One of the guy says she’s not going anywhere. They don’t care where she’s from – they want to know about Alexandria, which is where they think she’s from. They’re probably Saviors, since they’re so interested in Alexandria.
They tell Carol she shouldn’t be out alone. Carol pretends to freak out. She sort of hyperventilates again – kind of like she did a couple of weeks ago. The guys look bemused. She says no one has to get hurt and it doesn’t have to be like this. She’s crying and freaking out. The guys want to apprehend her ‘before she passes out’. Then they all get shot! She has killed them all with the hidden gun that was up her sleeve (so that was what she was sewing at the beginning of the episode). The driver is still alive and shooting his gun while looking for her. He’s circling the car, and then she impales him on one of her spiky devices and takes his gun. So we see that what looked like Morgan’s staff was really the spike on Carol’s car. She approaches the car to the other guy who is alive. She’s got a gun and is circling the car. He’s got a knife. All we hear is blood dripping.
Enid is in the pantry. Maggie comes in and says she’s tired. Enid says she’ll take over Maggie’s shift. She knows Maggie’s pregnant and wants to help.
Morgan and Rick are driving – heading east – because that was the way the tires from the missing car pointed. They’re trying to figure out where Carol could have gone. They see a few random walkers in the hills and they keep on driving.
Back to Carol. There’s even one more guy alive! What is this, a clown car? Just how many people are left in that car? Anyway, this guy is in the car. He sees one of his friends wounded on the ground. The guy from the car gets out and walks past him and says to ‘let it go’. Rick and Morgan come up to the ambush point and see the bodies. They see Carol’s car, but not her. Rick approaches the wounded guy and asks, ‘Where is Carol?’ Wounded guy says nothing, so Rick puts a knife in his head.
Morgan and Rick explore the area. Morgan sees the blood and thinks Carol could have been hit. Rick says she’s a force of nature. He’s proud of her. Morgan sees a trail of blood leading into the field. Could be hers. Morgan wants to follow the blood trail. They go into the field in search of Carol.
Other guy from the truck is hiding in the woods and comes out once Rick and Morgan leave. He picks up Carol’s rosary and follows them into the field.
More people being eaten by walkers by the railroad tracks. Rosita and Glenn see it. Michonne too. Michonne notes that Daryl hid his bike. They’re where Denise died. Glenn is worried that Negan’s group is after them, and wants to know which way Dwight’s group ran. Rosita nods in the direction they went. Daryl is tracking them with his crossbow – although he’s thinking it’s Dwight’s group and not his friends. He fires the crossbow and almost hits Rosita.
Daryl is not happy with Glenn’s group. Glenn wants Daryl not to keep going. Denise is dead, there is nothing they can do. The people in Alexandria need them all so that they can fight Negan’s group if/when they show up. Michonne asks Daryl to please come back, they’ll square everything when they fight Negan. Daryl is going to push on in the woods, and won’t go back with them. Rosita opts to go with Daryl. It’s not clear what her motivation is – Denise, or anger that Abraham is now with Sasha. Glenn and Michonne go back the way they came.
Glenn worries that Dwight’s group could be back at Alexandria right now. He really wants to get back. Then they hear a whistling sound. They look around and see someone pointing a gun at them. They continue looking and see that they are completely surrounded by a ring of people, including Dwight. All have their weapons pointed at Glenn and Michonne. Michonne and Glenn lower their weapons.
Back to the field. Morgan and Rick are still following the trail of blood. Morgan thinks Carol’s been bleeding for awhile. Rick is looking for her because she’s family. Morgan brings up that she killed sick people at the prison. Rick now thinks Carol was right to kill them. Morgan wants to know if she killed them today would Rick kill her. Rick says nothing. They keep walking. And then run when they see a figure walking. They think it’s Carol, but it’s only a walker that kind of looks like Carol from the back. They kill her. She’s kind of fresh.
Rick and Morgan see more bodies at a farm. They kill walkers. They see a glimpse of a person who is alive at this farm. The guy says says they’re looking for their friend. Many walkers to fight, mostly fresh. They kill them all. It almost looks like Morgan got bitten on the hand, but he didn’t. They find weapons scattered about – clearly Hilltop spears. They recognize the workmanship.
Morgan is worried about the Wolves. He thinks they did this. He says the Wolves attacked him, and confesses to Rick that he didn’t kill the Wolves, even when they showed up at Alexandria. Morgan gives his every life is precious speech. He recaps to Rick about the Wolf and Denise. He describes it as a circle. The Wolf saved Denise, and Denise then saved Carl. And Morgan let them live. He doesn’t say that if he had killed the Wolf right off the bat, Denise would never have been in danger, but hey. Morgan tells Rick to go home. Morgan says he’ll find Carol. Rick reluctantly says okay – he wants to get back to Michonne. Morgan says he’ll come back with Carol. Rick gives Morgan his gun. Morgan tells Rick if he doesn’t come back, not to come looking. Rick nods and says that Michonne did in fact take the protein bar from many seasons ago. They both smile and Rick leaves.
Abraham is at the gate when Rick comes back. He asks if Michonne is back – she’s not. Rick is worried.
Abraham asks if he’s afraid. Rick says yeah, he is. Abraham says he is too. But because of Sasha, he’s ready to fight again.
Rick and Abraham are looking outside the gate. Enid is back to Maggie from her shift. Maggie says she needs more help. Enid cuts Maggie’s hair. Maggie cuts it because she has to keep going and she doesn’t want anything to get in her way. Then Maggie has a horrible cramp and ends up on the floor. Miscarriage, or did she eat way too many pickles?
Daryl and Rosita are sneaking up on Glenn and Michonne, who are bound and gagged. Little do Rosita and Daryl know, but Dwight and his group of Saviors have them all covered. Glenn tries to warn them that Dwight is behind Daryl, but Daryl doesn’t get it. Dwight is behind Daryl and says “Daryl”. Daryl turns around and is promptly shot! Tons of blood. The screen goes black and we hear Dwight say ‘he’ll be alright’.
