81. Twice As Far, Season Six, Episode Fourteen. Original Air Date = March 20, 2016

The garage door opens and Denise steps out into the morning light. Olivia is working in the pantry. Father Gabriel is walking through the town with a gun slung over his shoulder. Eugene takes a guard watch at the gate as Sasha nods to him from her perch on the lockout platform. Morgan is practicing aikido. Carol is looking at her rosary. Morgan is building a jail, he’s cementing concrete blocks into place, and there are bars in the window, which he tests. Rick walks up and asks ‘why?’ Morgan says it will give you some choices next time.

Montage starts over. Slightly different angles.

This time Tobin gives Carol a kiss. She still looks unhappy. Rosita is getting dressed and is unhappy. She shakes her head. Is that Spencer in her bed? It is.

Daryl is looking at toy soldiers in his bike. Carol comes up and comments that he got his bike back. He bums a cigarette from her. They rehash the burnt forest episode and Daryl getting his bike stolen. He says he should have killed those people. Carol gets up to go. He asks her what Carol’s captives did to her. She says – ‘to us? They didn’t do anything.’ And then she walks off.

More time passes. Similar montage. Still makes me think that life can get boring after the apocalypse. For the most part you do the same things day after day.

Outside the gate Denise and some unidentified guy see an impaled walker from the lookout platform.

Rosita and Spencer walk down the street. He’s trying to figure out what’s going on between them, she’s indifferent. Denise was behind them in the doorway, and says she didn’t hear their conversation, even though she clearly did.  Denise wants to talk to both Rosita and Daryl.  She  tells them that there might be an apothecary beyond their city wall in a nearby strip mall. Denise is lobbying to go on a supply run for meds. Rosita and Daryl are skeptical, but in the end they give in.

They go and the car isn’t doing well, and it’s raining. They they spot a downed tree on the road. Denise is alone in the car. They move branches and they find a walker. Rosita kills it – no fuss, no muss. They clear the trees and the walker. Rosita wants to walk the tracks and goes it alone. Denise and Daryl go the other way – the way that’s ‘twice as far’.

Eugene and Abraham are talking. Not sure where they are. Abraham wants to know why Eugene is trying to change. Eugene, in his long-winded way is saying he’s changing to adapt to his circumstances. Abraham says to keep telling yourself that. So he does. Ha.

Outside the gate, Rosita, Denise, and Daryl meet up again. Denise wants to know how Rosita learned how to fight. Rosita says lots of people helped her. They get to the strip mall. Daryl bangs on the door to the apothecary, checking to see if there are walkers inside.  It’s quiet. He pries open the door.

The door opens and Eugene and Abraham are somewhere. Abraham wants to know what this place is. Eugene says this is where they will manufacture bullets. They need them as they’re getting low on ammo. It’s a machine shop of sorts. Abraham is skeptical but on board with his out of the box thinking. A walker shambles p to them and Eugene says he wants to kill it. Eugene is having massive troubles with it and Abraham has to step in and help him out. Eugene is acting tough and wants Abraham to apologize. They discuss skill sets and what is in each person’s skill set. Eugene says Abraham has outlived his usefulness to Eugene. Abraham is surprised and offended and goes to leave, and tells Eugene to find his own way back.  He leaves.

Back to Daryl’s group. They’re inside the apothecary. Denise sees photos of little kids and becomes upset. Rosita sees a sign for the inside pharmacy with the grate rolled down. Daryl pries it open. Denise looks at key chains wistfully. Daryl and Rosita go into the pharmacy with the plan to take everything. They hear a noise. It has to be a walker and it’s on Denise’s side of the grate. Denise looks like she wants to be brave. She hauls out her machete.  She opens the side door to go in, and with her flashlight sees junk and a walker in the corner with a cast on its leg. The words hush hush hush are written everywhere. Denise runs out and breaks a bunch of glass. Denise decides to wait for them outside. She sees lots of dead walkers on the ground and then she looks at the “Denise” key chain in her hand.

Daryl and Rosita come out, and see her crying. Daryl tells her she did well by finding this place. Rosita says they told her she wasn’t ready.  Wow, it turns out Denise is a twin – Dennis.  Sounds like he’s dead though.  The three of them begin the walk back. Daryl agrees to the tracks because it’s faster. Nice touch from the beginning.

They see a lot of abandoned cars, and Denise stops to go over to one of them. She looks in and sees a walker trapped inside. She wants the cooler inside, Daryl and Rosita say no, come on, but she’s going in. She’s going to try to kill the walker. She takes a deep breath and opens the passenger side door. She grabs the cooler, and begins to fight the walker. She’s in trouble. Daryl and Rosita see what’s going on and rush over to help her. The walker gets on top of Denise, but then she flips it around and she kills it! With no help! She lost her glasses though. Then she throws up, but she’s victorious. She opens the cooler and there are sodas! Sodas for Tara.  Denise says if you want to live you have to take chances.

Now the three of them are going to fight over what just happened. Denise tries to explain to them – Rosita’s alone for the first time in her life and Daryl makes her feel safe. But then bam!  She’s killed by the saviors. She gets the cross bow arrow in the had that’s meant for someone else in the comics. Then the rest of the Saviors come out, and they have Eugene prisoner.  Dwight, now with his burned face, has Eugene and he tells Daryl and Rosita to put their guns down.  They do. Dwight asks Daryl if he has something to say to him, and Daryl says no.  Saviors take all of Rosita’s and Daryl’s weapons.

Daryl says he should have killed him. Dwight says ‘what?’ Daryl repeats. Dwight then responds with he wasn’t aiming at Denise. What a creep – and a bad shot. Abraham is hiding in the back behind some barrels, and Eugene sees him. Dwight tells Rosita that they’re going to let them go, but they want them to lead them to their camp and let them take whatever they want. Eugene takes that opportunity to rat out Abraham. Saviors go to check it out.

Eugene makes his move by biting Dwight’s genitals, and Abraham starts shooting, as does Daryl. Gun battle + many walkers = a good chaotic battle.

Many dead Saviors and walkers later, Dwight yells to fall back.

Daryl’s out of ammo at this point, but the Saviors run off. Daryl runs to pick up his cross bow.

They go back to Denise. She’s clearly dead. Eugene has been hit and they try to save him. Abraham, Rosita, and Daryl carry Eugene. They leave Denise where she is on the tracks. One of the sadder deaths.

Back at the ranch, er Alexandria. Eugene will probably be okay since Eugene will be able to take antibiotics – thanks to Denise.

Eugene tells Abraham he wasn’t trying to kill him, he was looking for his moment to attack. Abraham agrees and isn’t upset with Eugene.  Eugene still wants an apology from Abraham about the walker in the metal shop, and Abraham does so.

Abraham then goes to see Sasha. He lets Sasha know he wants to be with her. 30 years would be too short. Sasha invites him into her home.

Someone has brought Denise’s body back to the town and Daryl and Carol bury her. Daryl is very bummed. He takes a shot of whiskey. Carol says he was right and she knew it when he said it. Daryl continues burying her.

We begin to see more montage action and Carol’s voice over.  Tobin reading the note that we hear in voice over.

Back to the montage at the beginning, but with different actors dong some of the tasks. Carol doesn’t want to kill anymore, so she’s going to take off and doesn’t want anyone to come after her.

Morgan is looking at Carol’s empty swing, which is swinging and creaking in the light wind.
