The shore and beach, maybe at dawn. Looks nice and inviting. Two little kids are heading toward the water. Oh no, there’s a a walker standing up in the surf. He sees the kids, but they don’t yet see him. Ooops, the first walker is now joined by one of his walker pals. The kids broke a cardinal rule – don’t ever turn your back on the ocean – or the walkers! Can’t the kids hear them? Oh, there’s a fence between the kids and walkers, well, I guess that’s okay then. The kids are now running away from the fence. Now we see a sky shot, showing us the sunrise and the clouds. Credits.
Back to Strand at the controls of the Abigail. Madison is annoyed with Nick. Madison and Nick are discussing whether or not they’re supposed to still be helping people. Madison says only if they can be helped. They’ve just found out that San Diego is gone. Burned down. Guess they aren’t going there, after all. Strand is surprised. Things were okay yesterday. He’s also worried about the boat that’s following them. Strand says ‘we don’t talk to strangers’. Strand has a plan to evade the boat following them. He says, ‘we hide’. They’re going to hide at a ranger’s station on a tourist island, says Travis. Strand is skeptical at first and then he agrees – that’s where we’ll hide.
Travis is outside looking for Chris. He’s telling Chris about the ranger’s station. Chris is skeptical. This skepticism is probably relating to how Travis dealt with Liza.
Back at the controls with Travis, Strand, and Madison. They see a light at a house there. They get to the dock, leaving Ofelia and Daniel to stay on the yacht with Strand. No one trusts Strand, which is probably a good thing, the last thing they want is to be left stranded on a walker-infested island by Strand. The rest of them go up onto land, where it’s dead quiet except for the wind. They go to the house where they saw the light. Travis is outside talking very loudly – alerting every walker within 10 miles if there are any. Clearly these people haven’t learned many lessons yet.
The door opens and out comes Harry, a little kid. Then Dad and Mom, and the other little kid. Travis tells the dad that they just need to get their bearings and then they’ll leave – there’s no need to be afraid of them. They all introduce themselves.
Travis and the dad are looking at the photos. Travis is drinking a beer. The guy says Travis can take a book. He states that Travis looks like he’s from L.A.. Has a look about him. The guy tells Travis that government is using napalm on the cities: Seattle, Portland, all the way down the west coast. And we know from The Walking Dead that napalm was used on Atlanta, so it all matches up. Travis asks what’s left? The guy says ‘not a hell of a lot.’ And not a better in the interior of the country. Things are pretty dead up to the continental divide. Half of the country. They don’t know what’s up with the east coast. Dad’s name is George. Madison and the mom are talking about Madison’s job as a guidance counselor. The mom is interested, and wants to know if Madison liked her job.
Then we meet Seth, the oldest son. He’s got a big rifle with him, which is good. He asks his mom how she is, and she says good. He asks after his dad, and once Seth finds out he’s okay, he says okay, I’ll be back in a bit.
Daniel and Ofelia on the yacht, Daniel says the yacht is only temporary. Ofelia says they have no where else to go. He asks her if she took her antibiotics and she says yes. Ofelia says she is starting to understand this world, and it is helping her understand him. This world is cruel, she says. Ouch.
Everyone is at the house drinking wine, even Alicia and Nick. Because, hey, why not? Alicia tells the little girl about ring around the rosies, a pocket full of posies. It’s about the plague, she says. Way to go, Alicia. Nick bonds with Harry. He’s actually great with the kid, like really great. ‘Wow, this is your room?? Cool!’ Chris wants nothing to do with socializing. Harry has bullet holes in the heads of all of his GI Joe-type dolls. ‘Because that’s what has to happen when you get sick.’ They also have ‘power pills’ to keep their family together.
Strand is impatient on the yacht. Daniel and Strand are talking. Strand mentions that the Abigail is a ten million dollar boat. Daniel wonders why he didn’t refer to it as his ten million dollar boat.
Strand sits and looks at the controls.
Back at the house. George is spewing conspiracy theory stuff. George says that Travis is Maori! This is cool since the actor who plays Travis is Maori. George has been studying that culture for a long time. George says he brought his family out here to keep them all together. George confesses he had no idea what hell was coming to come off the boat when Travis and his group arrived, and is now excited to have new friends. As Madison and Travis walk toward the Abigail, they discuss how intense George is – it has the feel of a couple going to a dinner party they had to idea they were going to enjoy, and then they did. Travis says George wants to be connected to the land. Madison says that Melissa (the mom) wants to be off the island.
Nick is psyched that there is no noise pollution, no planes, or stuff like that. Alicia says she’s up late because she had so much wine. Nick is up because of the kids. He’s bothered that the little kids won’t have a good life. Alicia thinks it might be the rapture, and Nick doesn’t think so. Nick says something is off, and Alicia says something is off everywhere.
Dawn again. Chris is on the dock looking around. He sees Seth with a pickaxe and follows him. They’re at the fence and Chris asks, ‘what are we doing?’ Seth replies ‘maintenance’, and then he kills a walker in the head with the pickaxe. Chris wants to know how many there are and Seth says there are new ones every day, and they are a pain in the ass. Want to kill some?
Travis on the Abigail. He asks Nick where Chris is. Nick says you can only help Chris if he wants help. Back to Chris and Seth. Seth says they can’t climb and they’re kind of clumsy. I wouldn’t underestimate them, Seth.
Chris kills his first walker through the fence. Seth says they need to be self-reliant, and then Chris kills another walker.
Chris is about to kill another walker, as Travis watches. He’s uncomfortable with the way Chris kills them. I’m with Travis. Seth says ‘he’s a natural’. Travis stays behind and is not happy. But yeah, Chris is a natural, and seems to be enjoying it just a bit too much.
Travis and George discuss the walkers. George sees that Travis is not happy about killing walkers and so he comforts Travis. Travis is going to help George put up more fencing. He says that there’s a tourist hotel on the other side of the island and if those walkers get a wiff of us, it’s trouble. Travis wants to survive. George says they’re all going to die. Do you think everything is going to be okay? Travis wants to know how George can just give up. George says he’s not giving up, he’s mending the fence.
Alicia is wandering around the ranger station with earbuds in!!! Loud music. Dumb, dumb, dumb. They’re on Catrina Island. She draws her tattoo on the sign-up list on the bulletin board. Oh, brother. She continues walking.
Nick is in the house, searching for drugs in the medicine cabinets. He’s looking everywhere. He finds a globe in the den, opens it, and finds a bag of pills. Willa, the young daughter walks in and he puts the globe back. She wants him to draw with her. He says he can’t draw, but she wants him to draw, so he says okay. He really is good with kids.
Daytime on the yacht. Strand tells Daniel that he’s hovering like the specter of death. Strand is looking at the controls, and says they sail with the tide.
Madison is at the home garden with Melissa. She helps Melissa with the gardening. They discuss how badly they each slept. Madison says they know where they shouldn’t stay. She says they should all be leaving soon. She asks Melissa if turning the light on was a mistake. Melissa says it is a stupid habit. Melissa admits she was signalling the boat. She wants Harry and Willa to have a chance, and that they have no chance on the island. Madison says come with us. Melissa says she can’t come because she’s sick. She’s not going to die imminently, but the sickness will kill her. George won’t leave the island. Madison asks if Melissa would like them to take Willa and Harry with them when they leave? Melissa says yes.
Madison and Travis discuss whether or not to take the kids. Madison says they can’t just keep leaving people behind.
Meanwhile Daniel is searching the control room and finds a locked bin/safe. He picks the lock and finds maps and papers, and a high-powered rifle. Lots of maps. Maps of Mexico.
Strand is on the phone on shore in an empty restaurant. Sundown. He’ll be there, says Strand. He says it twice.
Nick walks inside the yacht. Madison asks Nick what’s wrong. Nick says he thinks that George is planning to Jonestown his whole family.
Back at the house. Melissa says they’ll be right down, meaning the kids. She tells Madison that she thinks the kids are okay. I guess Madison and Travis are going to take the kids. George walks in and wants to know what’s going on. He’s not happy. Harry quietly comes down the stairs. He tells Melissa there’s something wrong with Willa. They go upstairs. Melissa goes to Willa. She’s laying flat on her back, not moving. She’s taken her pill says Harry to Nick. Melissa picks up Willa and is frantic. Willa opens her eyes, and we see her eyes are cloudy-cataract walker eyes. She even makes a little walker growl. Madison tells Melissa to get away from Willa – it’s not safe. Too late. Willa takes a chunk out of her mom’s neck. George opts to stay with his family as Travis, Madison, Harry and Nick run out. Not clear if he’s going to take a pill or let Melissa kill him.
They get back to the boat. Harry wants to know what happened to Willa and Madison says she got sick. Strand says the kid is dead weight. Seth appears on with the yacht with his high-powered gun, and he wants Harry back. He threatens to kill everyone, so they give Harry back to Seth. Seth says Madison caused this. He and Harry leave the yacht and as they look at the dock see walker-Melissa shambling toward them. Ofelia asks her dad if they can do something.
Seth tells Harry to wave ‘bye’ to the people on the boat and then he shoots his mom, while Harry’s back is turned. The people on the Abigail are distressed, but they depart, leaving Seth and Harry to face whatever has become of their dad, and the rest of the walkers on the island.
