Someone in the kitchen – must be Carol. Don’t know the background song, but it’s a jaunty tune. Carol goes out into the woods to gather nuts, and hears a walker behind her. She looks annoyed and pulls out a machete and kills the walker, but now she’s covered with blood. She goes home and takes a shower. She goes to the closet to to select something not covered with blood to wear, and chooses ‘Carol stealth-wear’. Ahh the egg timer. Back to stealthy Carol. Baby blue cardigan sweater and flowered shirt. She’s making cookies and now passing them out to people on the street. People smile as she gives them cookies. Then she gives cookies to Tobin and his kids. She uses beets to sweeten up the cookies. Tobin says he likes them. Carol is not sure, but he says yes. Someone yells, ‘they’re back’, and we see the RV driving up. Sasha and Aaron meet them. Rick says for everyone to meet up in an hour at the church. Carol isn’t happy when she hears they’ll have to fight. And the dark clouds gather and look ominous.
Morgan comes up behind Carol and says ‘it’s been awhile’ since they talked. Morgan wants to know why they didn’t tell Rick – presumably about Morgan not killing the Wolf. Carol doesn’t want to talk about it. Morgan says it’s almost like she did it too. Carol strongly disagrees. Morgan walks off. Then the camera pans down and we see Sam Anderson’s grave with a cookie on it.
At the church – Rick explains about the Hilltop community, the Saviors, and the deal they made with Gregory. Food for Alexandria, in exchange for the Alexandrians killing Negan. Rick explains why they have to fight and Morgan doesn’t look like he wants to fight – and/or kill. Rick asks for objections, and Morgan stands up. Morgan says it’s a choice – to try to talk to the Saviors. Morgan says where there’s life there are possibilities. Rick says they always come back – Wolves, Governors, Saviors…. Rick asks for a vote on talking to them first. Aaron stands up and votes no. He doesn’t want another attack like the Wolf attack. No one else says anything. Rick says okay, we kill them all. Tara looks uncomfortable. Rick comments that not everyone has to kill, but that if you want to stay here you have to accept it. Morgan, we’re looking at you.
Carol has insomnia. She’s looking at her kill journal and noting how many people and walkers she’s killed. 18. She’s upset.
Glenn and Maggie. Maggie tells Glenn she led them into this so she should accompany them all on the raid.
Carol meets Tobin outside and she has a cigarette (more guilt, Carol?) that she shares with him. He tells her that she does things that terrify him. He tells her that she’s a mom, she says she was, he says she still is. He says she’s strong and can do the hard stuff. She’s a mom to most of the people here. She’s happy when he says not to him. And then she kisses him. They discuss that she doesn’t have to leave till tomorrow. Wow – lots of romance in the air – Rick and Michonne, Abraham-Rosita-Sasha, Glenn and Maggie, Denise and Tara. I’m still wondering about Aaron’s partner Eric. Where is Eric?
Abraham and Rosita. Abraham says he’s leaving, not just to go on the raid – but he’s leaving her too! She’s shocked and asks why? He’s firm – he’s leaving. Finally he tells her that when he met her he thought she was the last woman on earth, but it turns out she’s not. Very harsh. Then he leaves, and Eugene is there. He has a cookie. Rosita slams the door in his face.
Denise and Tara. Denise asks if Tara is worried. Tara says she loves Denise. They kiss and hug. Denise will respond to Tara’s declaration of love when Tara comes back.
Planning with Michonne, Rick and the guy who was captured. Drawing maps. Glenn, Maggie, Rick, Daryl, and Andy from Hilltop. Rick says they go at night. Andy says the guards don’t sleep. Rick says they’re going to walk in and give them Gregory’s head (that’s why the Saviors will let them in).
Next day – RV and a couple of trucks. They all stop at a crash site. Gabriel, Jesus, Rick, Sasha, Carol, Rosita, Tara, Aaron, Maggie, Glenn, Andy, Daryl, Heath, Michonne. They’re looking for something, but we don’t know what it is.
Rick wants to know why Gabriel is still wearing his priest outfit. Gabriel says he’s still a priest, and besides, it’ll be harder to see him in the dark. Rick claps him on the shoulder in a friendly gesture.
Rosita and Carol discuss Morgan and the Wolf. Rosita says she isn’t going to tell. Carol smokes and watches Maggie and then drops her cigarette. She’s probably thinking about Maggie being pregnant.
Walkers come ambling up. Glenn starts killing. Heath and Glenn look at the walkers. They’re trying to find a walker head to match Gregory. Heath and Glenn discuss how they haven’t had to kill people before. Glenn thinks that killing people has to be pretty horrible and and he’s nervous. So is Heath.
Carol doesn’t want Maggie out there.
Rick and co, choose a walker head, Rick punches it. Now it’s okay if the head doesn’t look exactly like Gregory.
Radio telescope – red lights flash, Saviors yell at the driver to ID themselves. Andy comes forward with the walker head. Two Saviors come out and Andy gives him the head. They examine it. Andy explains that he broke his hand punching Gregory and that’s why the head looks that way. The Saviors appear to look satisfied. Daryl kills the one Savior and then all of Rick’s people come out and take up their positions. Andy is left alone while he waits for the other Savior to come back. Then they kill the other Savior and get the captive who had been left in the custody of the Saviors from last week. Then inside a bunch of Rick’s people go. It’s dark. Rick tells them to find the arsenal and take out anyone they see. All is going according to plan.
They begin to search. Someone is sleeping. Rick kills him – he hesitates a moment, as Michonne watches. Rick does not feel good about the kill. More sleepers. Glenn and Heath walk in quietly. Can they kill them? Glenn kills his guy and looks horrified and cries. Heath goes to his guy and can’t. Glenn does it for him. They’re both horrified, but Heath silently thanks him. The dead guys have photos on the walls of people they have killed. All have their heads bashed in. Probably with baseball bats. Yikes. If that’s not foreshadowing, I don’t know what is.
In a car, Tara asks if Gabriel is still a priest. He tells her about Carl and guns. Then he tells her that he’s still a priest. Then she confesses to Gabriel about the Governor, without mentioning his name. Jesus is in the back seat.
Abraham and Sasha. Guy comes out and attacks Abraham and then pulls the alarm. Outside Carol and Maggie hear the alarm. Carol tells her to stay here, they argue, and then a walker attacks and Carol kills it.
Jesus goes to go inside. Rick fires a machine gun and takes out a bunch of Saviors. Aaron is alone inside and fights a Savior and kills him. Much killing of Saviors. Machine gun battle. Tara kills a few outside.
Glenn and Heath inside the armory and they fire at the door with machine guns. They fire for a time and finally there is no sound outside. Glenn goes to open the door. Dead people on the ground. One guy is still alive and aims at them. Jesus kills the guy from behind and says “‘his is the next world’. Gabriel aims a gun at a guy on the ground. The guy has a gun and states that he doesn’t think the ‘padre’ will kill him. Gabriel recites ‘my father’s house is a mansion with many rooms’ from the Bible, and states that he’ll prepare a room for the Savior. Then Gabriel kills the Savior with his high-powered rifle. Woah, Gabriel! After the kill, Gabriel says ‘amen’.
Morning. Everyone comes outside and we see the radio telescope. Glenn asks if Heath wants to go back to camp before he and Tara go out. But Heath just wants to go.
We see a welder – it’s Morgan. Glenn hugs Tara and off she goes. The RV goes off. The rest are still at the telescope. Morgan looks thoughtful and disturbed.
Rick is by the fence and asks Michonne what’s wrong. She wonders which one of the dead guys is Negan. A biker comes out and Daryl beats him. It’s Daryl’s bike! A voice on the radio wants them to lower their weapons.
Rick says for them to come out, and they don’t lower their weapons. The voice says they aren’t coming out but they have Carol and Maggie and they assume the group wants to talk about that. It did all seem a little too easy…
