Abraham and Sasha come back through the gate to Alexandria after some kind of patrol mission. He’s telling her a story involving camels and they are laughing and joking. He’s amazed that Maggie is pregnant, and likes the new fortifications of their town. It does look a lot sturdier than before. They continue bantering and then Abraham says ‘see you tomorrow’. He’s looking forward to patrol with Sasha. Sasha says ‘Nope’. She’s starting a new shift. Eugene is Abraham’s new partner. They both look a little unhappy about it. ‘See you around?’ asks Abraham. ‘Yeah, see you around Abraham,’ says Sasha. They part, and Abraham looks thoughtful.
Later in bed, Rosita is talking to Abraham, but he is thinking of Sasha. He’s distant for a few minutes, and then comes back to the conversation. Rosita says Eugene is going to teach her chemistry. They kiss. She gets up and gives him a necklace she made from a truck part. He looks at the necklace, thanks her, and thinks of Sasha.
Outside at night – Maggie is putting up trellises for tomatoes. Glenn comes to help. She’s worried they won’t grow, he says they’ll grow. They see a disturbance across the street, and take off to investigate.
Jesus is inside Rick’s house, looking at a painting hanging on a wall. Carl comes up to him and points a gun at him. Carl wants to know what he’s doing in his house. Jesus introduces himself. Daryl, Glenn, and Abraham come in with guns. They all have a meeting the next day. Jesus assess their situation. He says they’re on the same side – the side of the living. They need to trade with each other. He proposes taking them to see his camp. He says ‘your world is about to get a whole lot bigger.’
Daryl is working on an RV. Denise comes up and gives him an oatcake to eat on the way. She stresses the nutritional value of the oatcake. He takes it from her. She tells him not to eat roadkill.
Carl and Rick discuss the impending trip. Rick tells Carl about him and Michonne – and that it just happened. Carl says it’s cool. Rick thinks Carl is coming along but Carl but says no, and references his eye.
They load up the RV. Daryl, Abraham, Michonne, Rick, Jesus, Glenn and Maggie. And away they go. Maggie is sleeping. Abraham asks Glenn if he and Maggie got pregnant on purpose. Glenn says yes. Abraham is floored that they would get pregnant. Glenn says they’re trying to build something.
Rick is driving, Daryl looks out the window and they see a car crash. Jesus says it’s one of ours. There’s a walker underneath the car, other walkers too are kind of hanging out of the car – but they look like they’ve been there awhile, they aren’t fresh. The group knocks on the door of a business, but no one answers. Jesus says ‘they have to be in there.’ Rick and co go inside, and Rick tells Maggie to shoot Jesus if he tries anything. She says ‘I will.’ Maggie has her gun trained on Jesus as the rest go into the store to see what’s up.
Inside the store they hear walkers, but can’t tell how many there are. Some people are hiding inside. Glenn and Daryl encounter someone and try to get him out but he won’t go. Abraham almost kills a person but realizes he’s alive and so doesn’t do it at the last minute.
Charles introduces himself to Maggie. Charles is a doctor. He’s an obstetrician. He’ll help. Freddie is hurt, not sure if he’s bitten or just hurt. Abraham looks a little shaky about almost killing Freddie. Then the RV gets stuck in the mud.
Then eventually get to Hilltop. They all walk towards it on the muddy path. Jesus confesses they ran out of ammo, so they use spears. Jesus asks for Rick and his group to trust them. they lower their weapons.
Inside the gates is a mansion, livestock, and crops. They’re out in the middle of nowhere. They have a fence similar to Alexandria. Pretty immaculate mansion!!! spiral staircase, paintings on the walls, mirrors. Abraham says ‘good gracious Ignatius’. Jesus says there are babies being born. We get introduced to Gregory. Gregory makes a comment about their lack of cleanliness.
We see life in their camp. They have a well, sharpening spears, etc. Abraham asks Daryl is he ever thinks about settling down. Daryl looks bemused. Abraham looks at his necklace and puts in underneath his shirt.
Gregory and Maggie are in the library and talk. Maggie asks Gregory if they’ve been here since the start, and he says yes. Maggie wants to talk trade. Can they? Gregory says Jesus says they don’t have food. Maggie says we can help each other. Gregory says they are fine, are you? Maggie is silent.
Jesus says they want to generate trade, but they don’t need ammo or medicine. Jesus says he needs a few days, can you give us that? Michonne says yes. Then others come in the room and say ‘they’re back’. Where’s Tim and Marsha? They’re dead. They still have Craig. It was Negan. Rick and Abraham are attacked by the newcomers, and a bloodbath ensues. Jesus comes in to separate the two fighters. Jesus tells Rick to put the gun away, and he does. Jesus again asks for time.
Gregory isn’t dead, but is wounded. Abraham is still on the ground, and Daryl checks on him. He asks if Abraham is okay and he says yes, he’s better than alright. He gets up and the necklace is left on the ground. How symbolic.
Maggie is watching the woman mourn Ethan (?). Jesus says Gregory will be okay. Rick asks about Negan. Jesus says that Negan is the leader of the Saviors. Negan killed a 16 year old named Rorie, and he adds that most of their stuff goes to Negan. In return Negan doesn’t attack them. Daryl proposes that they kill Negan, and if they do, will Jesus ‘hook them up’. Rick says the ‘trade’ would be muscle for food. Gregory will talk to Maggie. Maggie, the diplomat, will talk to Gregory.
Maggie goes in. They discuss. Maggie says they can get your man back (Craig). Maggie explains Craig’s behavior. Maggie basically says ‘will work for food’ – in other words, we’ll kill Negan, and you’ll give us food. Gregory is amendable. Maggie says Negan is going to want more and more from them. So Maggie wants half of every thing they have now. And if Gregory doesn’t do it, the deal is off. Gregory agrees to her terms.
Rick tells one of the guys that they’ll get Craig back but they need intel from him. He agrees to go with them. Jesus agrees to go too. Rick then asks Michonne if she’s up for it. She says there’s going to be a fight. Rick says they have to, and Michonne says they’ll win.
Glenn and Maggie look at an ultrasound of the baby. They’re happy and smiling. Then they all take off in the RV. They go toward Negan. While in the RV they pass around the pic of the ultrasound. Abraham smiles when he sees it, while Daryl looks nonplussed.
