Bunch of ‘previously on the Walking Dead to remind us’

Starts out with the ‘all your property belongs to Negan’ scene. Guy walks up to Daryl and asks for his gun. Next he takes Sasha’s gun. He walks up to Abraham and taunts him. Abraham simmers, but is silent and hands over his gun. They ask the guy who he is, and he says they’ll escort them home and not to ask more questions. A ‘person of hench’ escorts Daryl to the back of the truck – there’s more inside and they know it, so hand it over. The point man is aiming a gun at Abraham and then Sasha says she’s talking to the man and he looks like he’s going to kill the both of them. He doesn’t yet. Says he isn’t going to kill them, but maybe they will, no they’re kidding they won’t, but oh yes, we’re really going to kill you now.  Then they get blown up by Daryl’s rocket launcher! The guy who took Daryl to the truck, cut him but Daryl will be fine. Just a little blood. Sasha says they’ll take care of him at home. They don’t know yet that home is overrun. The ‘person of hench’ is dead on the ground.

Back to the overrun town. Good sign on the side of a building – ‘come in, we’re open’. Everyone is still walking in a line, holding hands, Sam’s ‘mom’ whining seems to be inconsequential – so far. Lots of gross walkers milling around by our people. Sam is grossed out and is looking more and more disturbed. They all continue walking. Still hand in hand. The background sound at first is quiet, but the walker sounds get louder as we become more emmeshed in the scene.

Rick has a new plan. They’re going to leave the town and then come back. Some number of them are going to the quarry. Father Gabriel says he’ll take Judith. He wants to redeem himself. Meaningful looks all around. Carl gives Judith to Gabriel.  Yikes.  Jessie wants to leave Sam with Gabriel too, but Sam says he’s okay – he can keep going. Jessie gives in and says okay. Gabriel promises to keep Judith safe. Rick says thank you. Gabriel walks off into the horde of walkers covered with walker guts as a worried Rick looks on. Jessie tells Rick that Gabriel will make it.

Carl and Ron hold hands and walk through the horde.

Tara looks at the horde from inside the house where they were holed up and says that they have to save Denise. Rosita says they only have one gun, they can’t go out there. Tara reluctantly agrees. Carol has regained consciousness. So has Morgan. Morgan wants to know where the Wolf is. Carol looks around and states that the Wolf took Denise, didn’t he. Rosita says yes. Carol wants Rosita’s gun so Rosita gives it to her – which may or may not be a great idea. Carol has had at least one concussion and seems a little out of sorts.

Denise and the Wolf hide in the garden square. The square is a bit below the surface sidewalks so the walkers can’t see them – that is, provided they make no noise.

Glenn and Enid make it to the church in town. Glenn says to look for guns, look in the bibles because sometimes they hollow out books. ‘Faith without works is dead’. It’s written above them on the inside wall of the church. Enid is transfixed by the message.

Meanwhile, the Wolf gently taunts Denise.

As Glenn talks to Enid, we see Denise and the Wolf sitting in their little safe place. The people who died make us who we are, says Glenn. Glenn mentions Dale, Herschel, Tyreese. Enid mentions her parents. Glenn tells her that so long as they are there, those people are here as well.

The Wolf says they have to go and he needs her. Denise is petrified and doesn’t want to move from that spot.

Glenn wants Enid not to give up on Alexandria. She says they have to go and save Maggie. She comes up with a mini-plan. Glenn says okay.

Back to the Wolf and Denise. He tells her that he wasn’t born this way, he changed, and now he wants to help her change. Into what is the question. Maybe he wants her to become a Wolf too. He’s crazy, but he kind of seems to like Denise, and it doesn’t look like he wants to kill her.

Enid finds a gun at the alter.

The Wolf snarkily says they might die, and that it’s more dangerous there with him than it is outside with the walkers. Denise is still petrified.

Night time in the horde of Alexandria. Night time?? They’ve gone nowhere. How is this possible? Walkers are wandering around, and our people are still walking hand in hand in the town. That town is not that big. Sam looks disturbed. He’s hearing voices. He’s hearing Carol’s story about being left beyond the wall and the monsters coming and eating him alive.  He’s so afraid at this pint that he’s rooted to the spot. Rick, Ron, Carl, and Jessie are trying to get him to move. At that point everything goes south, the walkers realize Sam is not one of them, and they eat him. Since Sam wasn’t moving, I’m not sure how they realized this. Jessie screams. Jessie is holding Carl’s hand, and now Jessie is getting eaten. Ron watches. Rick is crying. Rick is looking dazed and at Carl. Walkers have noticed Carl, and Jessie still has Carl’s hand. Rick cuts off Jessie’s arm so that Carl can get away. A gun falls to the ground and Ron picks it up and aims it at Rick. Michonne kills Ron as he is pulling the trigger. The gun goes off as Ron dies, but it misses Rick.  Walkers eat Ron. Carl is shot in the eye, looks surprised, and falls to the ground. Rick picks him up. Michonne slashes her way through the horde. It’s all filmed in a slow mo-ish quiet way, with only a few voices that we can hear.

Morgan is sitting on the floor. Eugene says sooner or later they will fight their way out. Rosita says yes, but not him. She doesn’t believe he can. Eugene looks at a machete.

The Wolf and Denise are still in the square, hiding. The Wolf says the Alexandrians should have put up a fight. Denise says they did and that’s why his friends are dead. He says sooner or later there will be a gap in the horde and then they’ll get to the guard tower and they will climb the ladder and get out. They run out and get stuck in the horde. The Wolf rescues Denise but he gets bitten on the arm. Denise says they have to get to the infirmary so she can safe his life.

Carol is looking down on the horde. She looks like she has a headache. Morgan approaches.  He says to her that she had a child, right? A husband? Carol looks pained. He said he wanted to stop her from killing the Wolf. She says you saved him for you, not us, and that she should have killed Morgan. He says ‘you can’t.  Carol looks on.

Denise and the Wolf make it to a room – not sure where they are. He’s starting to get delirious.  She says they have to make it to the infirmary. They fight their way out, but as they get outside, Carol shoots him and kills him. Denise runs away and makes it into the infirmary with Heath and Spencer. Where have those guys been all season?

Rick brings Carl to the infirmary.  Rick looks dazed and pained. The town is still filled with walkers. Rick goes out to get revenge. What? Is he crazy? Yes, it appears he is.

Rick is outside hacking away at walkers. Walkers are surrounding him. He’s a killing machine. Michonne decides to go help Rick. Denise is working on Carl. Michonne and Spencer go out to go to Rick’s aid. He’s still fighing. Michonne, Heath and Spencer arrive. Aaron too. Olivia is out fighting, as are other Alexandrians. They’re doing a bang up job, and leaving lots of dead walkers.  Teamwork, people. Teamwork.

Gabriel made it to the church with Judith. He gives Judith to a random woman to hold so that he can go out and fight. Raar! He leaves the group of other survivors inside and is prepared to go out and fight.

Tara’s group sees that everyone is out there fighting. They’re going to join the fight – even Eugene.

They all want to take back their town.

Out they go.

Enid and Glenn are heading toward Maggie. She’s in a precarious position up on her rickety look out platform. Glenn creates a diversion by shooting his gun and yelling while Enid goes to go get Maggie.

Enid climbs up the ladder and Maggie sees her.

Glenn is surrounded and Maggie is out of bullets.

The cavalry arrives – Abraham and Sasha with automatic weapons!  Just in the nick of time. They mow down the walkers and save Glenn.

Morgan encounters the Wolf who is now a walker.  Morgan apologizes to the Wolf and then kills him.

Daryl is driving, Glenn is in the car. Daryl wants to lead all the walkers away. So far we haven’t lost anyone. Daryl backs up the truck and opens up the gas spigot. Gas streams out. Everyone is fighting. Dead walkers clog the ground.

Daryl fires his rocket launcher at the lake and starts a HUGE fire. The walkers see it and are drawn to it. They plod toward the fiery lake.  Everyone continues killing walkers.

More and more walkers stream into the town, and most of them head toward the fiery lake. Even Gabriel is fighting. It’s swift and deadly. Nice montage of each person fighting, walkers dying, etc.

Daylight, smoke and dead walkers on the ground everywhere.

Our group also covered with blood, are on the porch recovering. They look spent. Denise sews up Daryl. Carl is unconscious but alive. Rick is talking to him. He is hopeful because they all worked together to fight and save the town. Rick sees that it is all possible now. He says that when it was all over, he had this feeling, took him awhile to remember what it was, he wants to show Carl the new world.  Please Carl, let me show you. Carl squeezes his hand.
