Black screen.
While the screen is black we hear Nicholas say ‘Thank You’. Then we see Glenn and Nicholas as they fall off the dumpster. Okay, finally we’re going to find out what happened to Glenn.
Nicholas is getting pulled apart, but not Glenn – yet. Nicholas is indeed on top of Glenn and it’s Nicholas’ guts that are being pulled out. Glenn is sliding carefully under the dumpster. Then it looks like he’s being dragged out, but he somehow gets underneath, and away from the walkers. It seems like he’s going in and out of consciousness, as day turns into night. As the time passes, walkers begin to lose interest, and begin to move on. Are they distracted by something else? Glenn is looking at Nicholas, who is clearly dead. Glenn slowly slides out from under the dumpster. I’m now thinking about The Attack of The Mushroom People – ‘First it was day, then it was night, and then it was day again.’ Glenn is guzzling on what’s left of a bottle of water. His flare gun is broken and dead. He grabs a gun. A girl gives him water. It’s Enid! He grabs his stuff and climbs up a ladder and goes in through a window to follow her. I’m glad he’s alive, but I’m annoyed that the dumpster situation even occurred. If you read the comics, you’ll know why I’m annoyed.
He calls out to Enid – what are you doing out here? He’s looking for her in her adopted house and doesn’t see her. Sad music playing — it’s been playing all through the opening. He’s looking at old cans of food and stuff. Stuff she’s been eating to survive. ‘Aren’t you going to answer me?’ he asks. ‘No’, she says. “What happened in Alexandria? We heard the gunfire”, says Glenn. She says people die. He asks if the walkers broke through the walls. He’s asking about the horn that blared. She tells him and then says you should go. He asks about Maggie. ‘Is she okay?’ Enid doesn’t answer. Glenn is going through the deserted house and then outside. He’s being somewhat careless. Man, didn’t he just come from under a dumpster surrounding by walkers? Man! He sees Enid running away.
He jumps out the window and follows her.
Morgan is practicing with his staff. Rick says good morning and that they should talk. Rick looks at the wall and sees the blood that has seeped through. We don’t see what caused it yet. He sees Maggie on guard at the lookout post. He climbs up the ladder to her. He tells her she doesn’t need to be up there. She says that this is the direction he’d be coming from. Rick says it’s hard being out there. Rick cheer leads that they’ve been in more difficult situations before — they’ll be back – Sasha, Abraham, Daryl – and Glenn.
Back to Glenn. He’s in another dead alley. Seems like he just came from another dead ally. Why is he there? And he’s looking at a walker – their old pal, David. He kills him. Glenn picks up the note on the ground that he left for his wife. Glenn turns and runs off with the note.
Gabriel posts notes about a prayer meeting that he’s going to hold today. Rick pulls the flyers off the posts as he walks briskly by. Carl is like, what are you doing, and Gabriel reposts them as soon as Rick pulls them down. Rick then helps Carl and Ron with gun lessons. Carl tells Ron he’ll be afraid when the time comes. And you’ll miss and you’ll die. Rick says hold the gun up at eye level. Rick tells him to carry it around with him so he knows what it will feel like. Ron asks lame questions, like about silencers, and then pipes down. He knows he’s asked questions that give away his true motives, and just smiles.
Morgan is out wandering around the town. He comes to Denise’s house. She wants to know if he’d like oatmeal. What does he want? Morgan says he’s fine. She’s being kind to him. Rick walks up. ‘Can we talk now?’, he asks Morgan. Morgan says yes.
Rick describes to Morgan how he tried to cut off the walkers, but then he was attacked by the wolves. He and Carol and Michonne ask Morgan if he let any of the wolves go and he says yes. He didn’t want to kill people he didn’t have to. He asks Rick why didn’t Rick try to kill Morgan? Rick says because I knew you. Morgan says you may have known me, but I would have killed you. Morgan doesn’t know what’s right any more. He knows that people can change because everyone in this room has changed. Every life is precious. Michonne says things have changed. Morgan doesn’t know if he can stick with it, or if he’ll have to change.
We hear walkers — hordes of them — and they’re right outside the walls. Rick and Michonne are discussing another plan to move the walkers. This time they’re do it right! Rick only wants to tell their people, not the others. And they need to catch their breath. Michonne says they’re catching their breath right now and they should tell the others. Deanna walks up. She brings the plans for the expansion. She’s happy. She is convinced there will be an ‘after this’. Michonne doesn’t tell Deanna about the new developing plan.
Rosita is teaching people, including Eugene, how to use a machete and other long knives. Rosita chastises Eugene when he loses focus. She asks him what is he afraid of. He says he’s afraid of dying. She says to think of the others and looking out for others, rather than focusing on your fear of dying. They get back to work.
Back at Enid’s abandoned restaurant. We see two year old cupcakes in a glass case. They look gross, but I love that they’re there. She writes JSS on a piece of paper. She goes to the front door and slowly opens it – to see walkers milling around. Glenn grabs her and closes the door. He asks why she gave him water. ‘You needed it and I had it’. She wants him to leave. Glenn says he’s not leaving her. She pulls a gun on him.
Glenn wants Enid to give him the gun. She won’t, so he takes it from her. They bicker. He says lets go – out the back. He tells her half the herd is on the way to Alexandria. He tells her to lead the way. They go.
Rick is busy building and propping up the wall. He gets some help from Tobin. Tobin says they can build up the brace on this thing.
Enid kills a lone walker as she and Glenn walk back. They’re in the woods walking along the road. They spot the green balloons. Enid takes them. They can use them to distract the walkers. Glenn says there’s a helium tank, more string, and more balloons over there.
Back at the wall – Rick and Tobin look at where the blood had seeped on the wall. He says that Rick and everyone scared the Alexandrians to death when they first got there. He says things moved slowly before Rick and his crew got there, and now they’re moving fast — too fast — but don’t give up on us.
Enid finds the helium tank. Glenn wants to know where she stayed in Alexandria. She says she stayed with Olivia. She and Glenn talk while they fill balloons. Glenn says he gets that she’s scared, and she says she’s not. Glenn says you honor the dead by living and going on. He asks whether her parents would want her to quit. We remember along with her that her parents got eaten in front of her. She doesn’t want to talk. Glenn is quiet.
Olivia is reading a book and someone runs behind her by the pantry. Is it the wolf? No, it’s Ron. Ron is behind her. He goes into the weapons room and takes a handful of ammo.
Glenn and Enid get close to Alexandria and see the horde of walkers at the walls. She turns to go the other way. She’s clearly terrified. She says we should let the world die – it wants to. He says he won’t let her die. She’s crying, and Glenn says the world doesn’t want to die and we’ll find out what we can do.
Rick and Tobin see Spencer climbing over the wall on a rope. He’s pulling himself along the rope, hand over hand. He starts to fall in the center between the walls. Finally he does fall. He bangs against the wall, and the crowd of walkers goes wild! He falls to the ground in the middle of a group of walkers. Tara, Rick, Michonne, Morgan, and Tobin start shooting at the walkers as Spencer is being grabbed and pulled back up the wall. He’s almost to the top of the wall as Rick pulls him up. Walkers keep coming. Spencer loses a shoe. Tara keeps shooting. They all pull him up and back over the wall away from the walkers. Rick wants to know ‘what was that?’ Spencer says he was trying to get them a car to help distract the walkers. Rick is not amused. Rick also gives Tara a hard time about helping Spencer out. He was worried that she could have gotten herself killed. She flips him off.
Scott is still in the hospital bed. Morgan talks to Denise. He says things are fine. He sees Scott and smiles. Morgan tells her she should have faith in her work. She shows him her chalkboard cheat sheet of symptoms matched to diseases. He asks if they have antibiotics? She says yes. He wants to help the wolf with antibiotics. She says she can help Morgan with Morgan’s wound. Morgan replies that it’s not his wound. He’s going to tell her who it’s for but doesn’t want her to do anything she doesn’t want to do. We then see Morgan and Denise walk off toward the house where the wolf is being kept. Carol, holding Judith, watches and skulks behind them. She then goes to drop off Judith with Jessie.
Carol and Jessie go inside Jessie’s house. Sam looks at Carol and calls out to her. He’s upstairs. He asks what happens if you can’t live with it. Carol says it eats you up. Jessie then takes Judith from Carol and Carol leaves.
Carol unlocks the door where Morgan is and asks him who is in there. Ron follows Carl and pulls out his gun. Michonne looks at the plans Deanna gave her.
Rick and Tobin build up the wall. Tara is looking for Denise. Rick goes after Tara and apologizes to her for giving her a hard time. Deanna thanks Tara and Rick for saving Spencer.
People are doing all of these work activities and look up to see the green balloons that Enid and Glenn released! Maggie sees them and grabs her gun and runs to Rick. She clearly wants to run to save Glenn. I’m not sure why they know for sure it’s Glenn and not Sasha and Abraham, but oh well. They all then hear creaking – it’s the tower falling over! It falls and knocks down a portion of the wall which will allow the walkers to come streaming in. Yikes!
