People in white SUV-type car – who are they? Oh, they’re probably Enid’s parents. Now we see the walkers eating those people, while Enid, protected in a red car, looks on at the carnage. Now we see Enid by herself as the lone survivor of the attack. We see little vignettes of her life by herself and how she survived – kind of like when we first met Bob, and got the glimpses of his life before he joined Rick’s group. Enid hides behind trees, hoping not to be seen by the walkers that we know are nearby. She writes in the dirt – JSS. She walks by a car with a dead person on the ground. She tugs his arm, but he’s a walker, stuck in the car. She dispatches him so she can take refuge in the car. She writes JSS on the windshield.
Now we see a turtle walking toward Enid. She kills it and eats it. Lots of blood, she looks like a walker as she munches down on the raw turtle. She arranges the bones to spell JSS. Finally we see her as she approaches Alexandria. We can tell because we can see Reg and Carter’s walls. She hears voices as she looks at the gate. She turns away toward where she came from, and then is at the gate. They let her in. She has written JSS on her hand by scraping away the dirt and grime and leaving the letters as clear patches on her skin.
In the pantry with Carol and two Alexandrians. They’re doing inventory. Shelly is one of them.
Sam and Carol. She tells him that Pete got himself killed. He looks a little nervous of Carol. Jessie is calling Ron, her son. He comes in. She’s going to cut his hair and he says no. He doesn’t want to talk, and she does. She wants to know if Ron blames her for Peter’s death. She says Pete was dangerous, he says Rick is dangerous. Ron wants to know if she’s friends with Rick, and she says yes.
Deanna and Maggie are outside. Maggie has seeds she wants to plant. Hm. Herschel had tomato plants, and look what happened to him! Maggie says all they need to do is finish the expansion and build up the walls. Maggie hands Deanna a shovel.
Eugene and Tara talk inside. Denise is sitting in a corner unnoticed so she’s kind of eavesdropping, but not really. She says she’s the new doctor. She went to med school, but is now a psychologist. She’s all the town has, doctor-wise. Why does Tara want the aspirin. Tara says she’s a little dizzy. Since she just came out of a coma this could be a problem. Denise says she’s okay checking her dizziness – she probably won’t kill her. Eugene ‘helpfully’ adds that it could be a hematoma. No one is amused.
Carl is walking down the street with Judith in a carriage. Gabriel comes up, and Carl is stand-offish. Gabriel says he wants to help now. Carl says for him to tell the others and is otherwise noncommittal. Then he sort of relents and says that they’ll all be training (with weapons) and for Gabriel to discuss that with the others. Carl continues walking and sees Enid hugging Ron. He continues walking.
Carol is in the kitchen. She’s making a casserole. She pops it in the oven and sets the timer. She sees Shelly outside smoking. Carol is startled when a homeless-looking man runs up to Shelly and hacks at her with a machete!! Carol goes into ‘carol mode’.
Maggie and Deanna are digging, and fire bombs start hitting close to them. A man gets hit with one and ends up burning to charcoal on the ground. Deanna is in shock. Attacks are now coming from all over. Everyone running. Jessie is going to go look for Ron, but Sam doesn’t want her to go. Just then they hear someone coming inside their house, so Jessie and Sam go hide in a closet. Jessie pulls out a gun to defend herself. Another person with a shovel stabs a running man with it. Carl has a gun, and hears someone coming in, but it’s only Enid. Whew. She’s going to say goodbye to Carl, she doesn’t know about the attacks yet. He says nope, you’re not going anywhere. They sit back to back, she with a knife and he with a gun. She doesn’t think this place can be protected – there’s too many blind spots, but Carl is ready to fight and tells her not to tell him goodbye. She says okay, she won’t.
Mayhem outside! Carol observes the goings on outside. She’s running and sees a man slash a woman – it’s pretty clear the woman isn’t going to make it. Carol kills the man. She holds the stabbed woman, tells her she’s got to be quiet and then kills her as well. She makes sure to destroy the brain. Carol sits quietly on the stairs. Spencer, Deanna’s son, is upstairs shooting attackers as he can, sniper-style. A huge semi comes through the gates. Spencer shoots the driver and the truck crashes into the wall and the horn starts blaring! Ah ha! that’s how it happened! A wolf attack!
The horn still blaring. Spencer is stuck in the wall by the truck. Denise, Tara, Rosita, Eugene, and others are helping a woman who was stabbed in the street. She’s on a makeshift operating table. There is much discussion of who will help the woman and who will help outside. Eugene will be helping Denise – he’ll be safe there. There’s a fresh walker in the semi-truck – the now dead driver. Spencer knows he needs to kill the walker, but he can’t. He’s very tentative in his movements, looks like fear and lack of experience. Morgan suddenly steps in and dispatches the walker. He asks Spencer what happened, and Spencer tells him. Morgan confronts an axe-wielding wolf. Morgan only has his jo. He tells the man to leave. All of a sudden a hooded person kills the wolf. It’s Carol dressed in wolves clothing. Morgan tells Carol not to kill people.
Deanna, Maggie and Spencer are together outside by the wall. They want Deanna to go inside, but she says no, she’ll only need to be rescued, she should stay outside. Spencer puts her in the truck with the now dead walker. She looks resolute.
Denise says the woman they are trying to help is bleeding, probably from her femoral artery. She will die soon because there is no surgeon. Tara says they have to help her, and wasn’t Denise going to be surgeon? Yes, says Denise, but she isn’t actually a surgeon. Tara says she was guarding us, so please help her. Denise is afraid, but after Eugene says it’s best not to be a coward, Denise decides she’ll give it a try. Ron is outside being chased by a wolf. Just in the nick of time Carl shoots the wolf. He begs for his life and tries to take the gun away from Carl as soon as Carl lets down his guard a little. Carl fights him off and tells Ron to go inside. Enid sees the whole thing. Carl follows them both into the house.
Back to Jessie in the closet with her gun. She hears footsteps which sounds like whoever it is, is taking off. Jessie goes out to investigate. Sam locks the closet behind Jessie. Jessie is in the kitchen now. She tells Ron to stay outside and ends up grappling with someone and is knocked out. She opens her eyes and sees the person run off. Jessie grabs the scissors and kills the woman who beat her up. She’s not just killing her, she’s killing her a lot. Violently too. Ron sees this from the other end of the room. Finally Jessie is almost done killing the woman. She then stabs the woman in the head. Now she’s done.
Carol shoots the wolves who think she’s one of them (she is dressed as in clothing belonging to one and has a cloth over her face so no one can recognize her). Gabriel is about to be killed when Morgan steps in and saves him. Carol shoots a group of wolves. She’s a relentless killing machine. Carol comes across Olivia hiding. She says it’s her, Carol, and not to be afraid. She then shows Olivia how to use a gun. And off she goes to create her own mayhem.
Morgan is tying up the guy who attacked Gabriel. “How did you learn how to do that?” asks Gabriel. As he’s talking to Morgan about the now tied-up wolf, Carol walks up and shoots the tied up wolf. She gives them a gun. Gabriel says he’s not good with guns, Morgan says ‘me either’. Carol is a one woman killing machine.
Much shooting still going on outside, although it does seem to be a mop up operation at this point. Many wolves surround Morgan, and he is fighting them all. He is telling them to get out. ‘If you keep choosing this life you will die’. A wolf says ‘we didn’t choose.’ The remaining ones take the guns from the dead ones and leave. Morgan closes that barn door, er, um, gate.
Carol is standing over the dead woman with her cigarettes. She then goes and sits on the steps with the pack of cigarettes. She rubs the W on her head and tries to wipe some of the blood off. As she is doing this, she notices an ‘A’ written on the banisters of the steps. She looks at the cigarettes – looks like she’s going to smoke one, and begins to cry. Many dead wolves in the streets.
Aaron is going through a dead wolf backpack. He finds his black and white photos of Alexandria. Did those photos help with the attack?
Denise is working on the woman, but she flatlines. Denise has failed and is devastated. Tara says hey, you tried. Denise tells them to go. Tara says to Denise, make sure you get her brain. The survivors are walking around the town. Spencer is talking to Rosita – how do you do this on the outside? You just do, make sure you have something to live for. Charcoal burned guy is now a walker. Maggie kills him.
Maggie tells Deanna, we’re all still here. Deanna says not all of us.
Carl is looking at the guy he shot outside and calls out for Enid. She left him a note saying to ‘just survive somehow’ (JSS). The timer goes off. It was Carol’s casserole. Carl turns off the timer and takes the casserole out of the oven. So we’ve only used up about 45 minutes to an hour of elapsed time. That’s kind of cool — all of the story happened in real time.
Morgan kills a fresh walker. He goes into a house with his jo – quietly. He looks around. A wolf comes after him and starts beating him up. He fights back. Morgan gets the upper hand. He apologizes and then kills him.
Morgan walks outside with his jo towards Carol. They come within inches of each other, say nothing to each other and then walk past each other.
The episode ends with an overhead shot of Morgan walking down the street.
