6. The Good Man, Season One, Episode Six. Original Air Date = October 4, 2015

The episode begins with a montage set to music. We see a darkened Capital tower (US Bank Tower?) in downtown L.A.. We see the darkened freeways and neighborhoods. The whole city is dark except for some burning fires. The camera finally ends up at the arena packed with the 2,000 infected. Walkers bang on the padlocked doors. They are almost bursting out – and they probably will before the end of the episode.

Madison is at home packing. Travis walks in carrying a box. Chris and Alicia walk in and Travis and Madison tell them to pack their stuff and get ready; we’re going. Alicia says she thought we were — winning. Travis says no, the soldiers are retreating, so Travis’ plan is back to ‘Plan A’, go east to the desert.

Daniel, Travis, and Andrew are sill in the basement. Daniel wants to kill Andrew.  Travis is horrified and says no.  They take off the duct tape from his mouth. He says the place where Liza and Nick are is a maze but Andrew can draw a map. He’ll be able to help find them. Madison asks Travis if he would do anything to protect Chris. She doesn’t believe Andrew and is doubting Travis’ ability and desire to do the right thing and look after their children.

Ofelia is in the bedroom packing up her stuff. Daniel says he needs her help him find her mother. She asks about Andy. Daniel says he’ll bring him. Ofelia says you lied to me my whole life and insinuates that he’s lying to her now. Daniel says he protected her.  She thought he was the victim. He wants to know if she’d rather have him dead. She’s silent.

Madison is looking at the height markings of her kids on her walls and then goes out to the car.  They have enough provisions – they think – to ride out the apocalypse in the desert.

Ofelia is putting her stuff into the car too.

Back at the makeshift hospital, Dr. Exner is prepping patients for departure. Edwards Air Force Base has room for them. Liza wants to know about Chris. Dr. Exner says she submitted the request and wants to know who is family – blood or bond? It could mean Travis, Chris, Madison, and Alicia. Liza wants Travis and Chris. She says they can leave the rest of them. Well, alrighty then!

Travis and Andy are outside talking. Andy says he’ll help, but please untie him. Travis hesitates. Next shot is all of them leaving the house. Chris, Madison and Alicia are in one car. They look out their car windows to see their neighbors inside their houses unaware of what’s going to go down tomorrow morning.

They get to the checkpoint. Daniel gets out of the car to the gate, and turns dials on the fence to open the gate. They begin driving through.  Travis finally drives through. No one stops them.

Soliders begin to leave. Soldiers in the lookout tower see Daniel walk up to them. They think he might be infected and tell him they don’t want to shoot him. He says ‘save your bullets, you’ll need them’. As he says that a horde of walkers shamble toward the tower. Much indiscriminate shooting. The soldiers are about to be overrun and are panicking. Hordes and hordes walk up to the tower. They must have broken out from the arena.

Daniel led the walkers to the north gate to the soldiers, kind of like a pied piper of doom.

The group is now in the car park in the building. They’re hoping to find Griselda, Liza, and Nick. Travis says if anything happens, Chris should drive. Chris wants to go with them, and anyway, he doesn’t drive yet. Madison says Alicia can drive. Daniel, Ofelia, Travis and Madison leave Chris and Alicia at the car and they go in to try to find Nick, Liza and Griselda.

Nick and the well-dressed guy are still in their cage. He’s calm and Nick is climbing the walls. He tells Nick not to draw any attention to them, and then he asks Nick where he’s from. Nick says he’s from El Sereno.

Lots of shooting going on near the cage area and the lights go out. Buzzers are going off and there is a fair amount of chaos. The well dressed man can’t find the key he had in his pocket, but Nick shows him that he has it. Nick must have picked his pocket. So, yes, well-dressed guy was right – Nick has skills.

Missed some – buffering issue.

Madison, Daniel and Travis see the horde of walkers. They bring out the bolt cutters and begin to cut the fence so that they can get in and rescue the others.

Missed some more. Buffering.

Liza and Dr. Exner. Dr. Exner says they all have to go. She tells Liza to go. Liza wants to know about Chris. Dr. Exner says that if the soldiers haven’t come for Chris by now, they never will. Dr. Exner sees one of the helicopters flying away and tells Liza to run. Dr. Exner decides to go down with the ship and stay with her patients.

Chris and Alicia are in the car. Chris says to her ‘this is crazy’. They both get out of the car. They begin to argue and then hear gun shots. Alicia says you can’t save everyone. He tells her to shut up, but not out of meanness. He sees some movement and thinks that walkers might be coming into the car park.  They crouch down low in the car in hopes that the walkers don’t see them.

The well-dressed man and Nick walk out of their cage with help of the key. A woman begs them not to leave them there. Well-dressed man says ‘there’s no value add’ and keeps on walking.

Chris and Alicia are hiding in the car. We can see it’s only a couple of people coming toward them, not a horde. Actually it’s soldiers. They smash the window and grab Chris and Alicia. The soldiers want the car keys so that they can get out. Chris says they can’t have the keys. They begin to beat up Chris and Alicia says for them to just take the keys and she hands them over. One of the soldiers makes lewd comments toward Alicia and Chris starts to fight the soldiers.  They knock him unconscious. They continue to make lascivious looks at Alicia.

Daniel, Madison, Travis and Ofelia are at the checkpoint scouting around, trying to find the others.

The soldiers are still defending the tower, and shooting walkers. Liza is there too with the soldiers and can see what is happening. She’s supposed to get in the truck so they can drive off. She hesitates. The fence breaks and the walkers get through. Soldiers are getting bitten. Liza doesn’t get in the truck. She sees a soldier killed. The tower goes down and the whole horde is in. Liza freezes and then runs in the other direction toward the building.

Well-dressed man and Nick almost run into a group of soldiers. Everyone is now converging in the same building.  Nick runs after well-dressed guy and they close a door behind them. Lights are flickering all around them. They walk into a room where walkers are eating soldiers. Nick knows what he’s seeing and pulls well-dressed guy away from them. Well-dressed guy says the walkers are slow and edges them toward the walkers. He wants to get guns. Well-dressed guy sees that one of the soldiers being eaten alive is the one who has his watch and cuff links. Well-dressed guy takes back his cuff links but tells the soldier he can keep the watch. More walkers start to arrive and Nick and well-dressed guy have to go.

Travis, Madison, Daniel, and Ofelia find the cages where Nick recently was located. They ask the caged people if they’ve seen Nick (and they describe him). They get some information and then try to free as many people as they can. They manage to free some. They have to leave the rest. They run off to try to find Nick. Meanwhile Nick and well-dressed guy are stuck with a bunch of walkers coming after them. The door is locked and they have no where to run. Well-dressed guy shoots all of his bullets in vain. Madison is on the other side of the door. Madison and co try to open the door and fail. Nick sees the writing on the wall and tells them to leave. Liza arrives just in time with her key card and is able to get the door open.  They pull Nick and well-dressed guy out. Walkers are right behind them.

The group is now in the kitchen. No one is there at first but the the walkers come out. One attacks Liza. They beat the walkers in the head. One grabs Madison, and almost bites her but Nick saves her.

The group is now together and they are now going to try to get to Alicia and Chris. The well-dressed guy now has a name — Victor Strand.

Daniel asks Liza about Griselda. Liza says that she is sorry. Ofelia asks too. Liza tells her the infection took her. Ofelia says she wants to see her mom, and Liza says there is nothing left to see.

Ofelia and Daniel are shocked into silence.

Our group is now where all of the patients are – and Dr. Exner. Most of them have now been shot in the head. Madison is grabbing all the drugs she can. Dr. Exner is sitting with the patients. They need a way out. She tells Liza that she should have gone when she told her. Dr. Exner says there is a way out and describes it. Liza asks Dr. Exner to come with them. She won’t, and she stays. She looks like she’s getting ready to kill herself with the device Liza used to prevent Griselda from coming back.

Mr. Strand says to go west – he has a home on the water, he’s prepared, and has supplies there. East is no good.

It looks like it’s now morning when the group walks outside of the makeshift hospital. They see piles of charred remains of people. It’s quiet outside though. They look at all of the burned bodies and burned dolls.  Ofelia cries. Everyone was incinerated. This is probably where Griselda ended up and Ofelia knows it.  When Liza said there was nothing left to see, she meant it.

In the car park – the car is gone, but Chris and Alicia are safe. Ofelia slumps to the ground as loss hits her. Andy steps out from behind a pillar, calls Daniel and then points a gun at him. Ofelia asks Andy to put the gun down. She begs him, but he continues to point the gun at Daniel.  He then abruptly turns and shoots Ofelia instead! Travis has had enough and he beats Andy to a pulp, but Madison is able to pull him off of Andy before Travis kills him. And it’s possible that Andy will die soon, Travis really pummeled him. Travis is shaking.  He slowly walks to the car, and rests his bloody, shaking hands on the hood of his car.

We see an overhead shot of downtown L.A. burning.

Madison is driving and avoiding the few walkers wandering around on the road.

Strand says to follow the river docks. They avoid going to downtown. They drive down the aqueduct where Nick shot Calvin. Nick sticks his head out the window to feel the breeze on his face. Travis drives the truck. They see car crashes on this road too, although not enough to impede their way. Above them is the freeway packed with many stalled cars. It’s a shot very reminiscent of when Rick rode his horse into Atlanta and saw the other side of the freeway packed with cars. Fires are still burning. They arrive in a neighborhood high above the city. This is where the wealthy Strand lived. He gets out of the car and punches in a code. Generators keep everything going so the electronic locks work. Ofelia is still alive after taking that bullet, and her wound looks like a minor flesh wound on her arm.  Nice house Mr. Strand has there. Everyone looks around seriously impressed – because it is definitely a home that someone fabulously wealthy would live in.

Nick and Madison look out at the water form the porch. She apologizes to him for letting them take him. Nick forgives her. He tells her he feels strange. She says they don’t know where they’re going. Nick says that’s the thing, he’s never known where he was going. He’s been living in this type of situation for a long time, and now everyone is catching up to him. They are silent again as they look out at the water.

It looks like it is later in the day and the sun is getting lower in the sky. Liza tells Ofelia she can survive her arm wound, Liza has medicines. Liza and Chris talk. They’re happy to see each other. Liza tells Chris she loves him and he is happy. She looks a little sad.

Madison washes the blood off her hands. Strand is packing his nice shirts. Nick walks by and asks where is he going. Nick asks if they can all stay here, and Strand says no, no one can stay. Nick wants to know where Abigail is. Strand says not here. Strand says we have to embrace the madness, and goes to a telescope and focuses on something. He wants Nick to look. It’s of his huge yacht – Abigail. Madison follows Liza to the very protected shore. Madison asks her what’s wrong. Liza shows her a big walker scratch on her side. Madison asks what can they do. Liza says there is nothing they can do. Liza has a gun, but she doesn’t think she can do it, meaning she doesn’t think she can kill herself. Madison realizes what Liza is saying and says she can’t shoot Liza. Liza says, hey, you didn’t like me all that much anyway, and they can’t make Travis do it.  She hands Madison the gun, and Madison reluctantly takes it. Travis walks up just at that moment and sees the gun in Madison’s hand.

She tells Travis that Liza is infected. Travis says it’s okay. He tries to make it be okay. She tells him there is nothing that can be done. He says they have antibiotics now. She shakes her head and says they won’t work. She says the infection kills you, and then you die, and then you come back. She doesn’t want that to happen to her. She begs Travis to protect Chris, and she tells him to tell Chris that she killed herself, that Travis or Madison didn’t do it. Travis cries and says she’ll protect Chris. Madison gives the gun to Travis when he holds out his hand for it.

Back at the house Alicia and Chris eat popsicles on the porch and they hear a gunshot. They run toward the shot. Travis walks away in slow motion. He’s dazed — broken, even.

He lets the waves wash over him. Chris cries over Liza’s body. Alicia stands near by in shock. Madison holds Travis as he cries, and the waves wash over them. The camera pulls back and we see them siting on the deserted beach. Then we see Abigail in the ocean, and the camera flies over the ocean to the open sea.
