17. Pablo & Jessica, Season Two, Episode Eleven. Original Air Date = September 11, 2016

Madison and Strand kill walkers in the bar from a couple of weeks ago. We hear Alicia call ‘Mom!’, as we did before, but we now see it from Madison’s point of view.  Strand is stabbing a walker as another one crawls over to them. They kill it. Madison breaks a bottle against the wall and calls to Strand. They both go into a little enclosure and stab a walker many many times, including in the head.  Then they reach into its stomach and cover themselves with guts. I guess Madison remembered Nick doing that. Strand and Madison walk back into the bar, and the walkers ignore them. They look at Strand and Madison but are quiet and docile, and meander about. Strand jumps over the bar and makes a bit of noise, but it barely phases the walkers. Madison climbs over the bar, carefully watching the walkers as she does so. Strand and Madison walk slowly away. Strand gently closes the door behind them, barricading it behind them. Now we know how the walkers got barricaded inside the bar area.

Strand and Madison head outside, still covered in guts. There are a a lot of walkers wandering around and the truck is gone. Strand assumes that Alicia and Ofelia took the truck and left. Madison is skeptical. They begin to climb on some scaffolding as walkers continue to wander about.  They look down from the outside balcony and still don’t see Ofelia or Alicia. They go back inside on one of the upper floors and rest on the steps of an ornate staircase. Strand says Alicia and Ofelia do what they have to do to survive, but Madison doesn’t buy it. She doesn’t think Alicia would leave.

Credits

Madison and Strand have now cleaned themselves up and drink water to help with their tequila hangover. Now that they’re all cleaned up, they hear noises, that are not the infected. It’s Alicia from last week. They break open the door and get Alicia and Elena in before the walkers follow them inside. They literally slam the door in the walkers faces. When Strand sees Elena he asks her (in Spanish) ‘who the hell are you?’

At the Colonia, Nick sees the little girl who lost her dad. She crying and being comforted by someone – but it still bugs Nick. He goes off into the Pharmacia where he encounters Alejandro. Nick has some powdered milk with him -he wants to do some compounding. He grabs the oxy, and he’s going to cut it with the powdered milk. Alejandro wonders if there will be a problem with gang. Nick is unconcerned. He says that all the gang will know is that they’re getting higher, quicker. They’ll be happy. He tells Alejandro that Alejandro is the pharmacist and Nick is the junkie and to ‘trust me’, says Nick. Nick just wants to make things right. Musical montage of Nick making drugs.  Kind of like Breaking Bad – I was kind of waiting for Walter and Jesse to show up. Nick says he has a limited refined skill set. Alejandro says that it will only buy a little time. Nick says more time means more hope.

Madison wants to look for Ofelia – she promised Daniel. Alicia says that Ofelia said she didn’t think they’d make it. Strand thinks that Madison should worry about the problems that are here and now, and not to worry about Ofelia. They move on to discussions about food and water. Elena says there is a lot of food in the hotel – dry goods and such. Outside, Madison calls out for Oscar. She wants to talk about working together. He says to lose the weapons ad they’ll talk. Strand and Madison put down their tire irons (they look like tire irons) and they go inside one of the towers.

Back to Alejandro and Nick compounding oxy. We see Alejandro’s bite again. It looks nasty. Nick says that Luciana says Alejandro was bitten but didn’t turn. Alejandro says that Luci tests people because sh’s not that trusting. Alejandro asks Nick if he believes he was bitten. Nick says he doesn’t believe in miracles. Alejandro says it’s a leap of faith?  He pats Nick on the back.

Madison asks the group about their plan. One of them says that some of their group were trapped there and some left.  Jessica’s (the bride from last week) mom is part of the group. She looks broken. They discuss how they can fortify the hotel – grow crops, have water, etc. Essentially, to make a home there. Madison says her group has been outside and know what it’s like, the hotel group hasn’t. Madison tells the mom that Elena did what she thought was best – by locking the wedding guests into the ballroom. They’ve all lost people, Madison continues, but they can start over. They have to clear the dead.  Madison says that they’ve seen the cruelty of the outside world, so they have to fortify. The hotel group relents and gives Madison the hotel keys. Strand says she did well negotiating. Strand also says they can’t work with the mom, grief is driving her. Strand is finally starting to deal with his own grief. He says he had a home with Thomas – this isn’t home. He’s pragmatic and will help fortify the hotel, but it will probably never be home to him.

Nick has his pills and he’s on his way to trade pills for goods. Alejandro tells Nick about this boy who was also a drug dealer. He explains that as he was trying to save the boy and fight the living, he was bitten by the dead.  He waited for days for death to come, but it didn’t. Nick gingerly inspects Alejandro’s wound, touching it, almost like Doubting Thomas exploring Jesus’s wounds while he was on the cross.  Nick asked what happened to the boy. He was killed, says Alejandro.  Alejandro wants Nick to be brave, but careful, when he goes out. He wants Nick to come back. They see Luciana playing soccer with a bunch of kids. One of the kids on the other side says ‘it’s not fair, we don’t have an adult on our side’. So Nick goes in to play on the other side. They all play and Nick scores. They all laugh and Nick picks up one of the kids. They continue to play as Francisco, covered with blood goes to talk to Alejandro. Luciana looks distressed. Francisco says ‘he’s in pieces’. Nick wants to know what’s wrong. Luciana says they found Pablo and she goes over to talk to Alejandro and Francisco.

Luciana and Nick go back outside of the walls. She tells him that Pablo is dead and Nick says he’s really sorry. Her dad was already dead before everything started, and Pablo helped give her peace when her mom joined the dead. Nick hugs her and says he’s sorry.

Back at the hotel. Alicia says they have to clean sweep this place. They open a hotel room door and out comes a walker. Alicia promptly knifes her in the head. They move to the next room.  And probably the next, and the next, etc. They gather a bunch of dead infected on the beach – maybe build a bonfire with them? Alicia and Madison wash their hands in the ocean and Madison says she’s sorry. Madison says Alicia raised herself and it’s Madison’s fault. Alicia says Madison didn’t do anything wrong. Alicia goes to the water, and Madison says for her to come on out, but Alicia goes out farther.  She sees a sign and points to it – it’s a sign warning people about the riptides. Alicia says they don’t have to go room by room, floor by floor.

Nick is back in the Colonia. Alejandro gives Nick a house! It’s kind of dilapidated, but it’s a house. Nick says he doesn’t need it, and Alejandro says it’s a gift. Nick is left alone in his little house.

Elena says that everything connects in the room where they are currently standing. They make a plan to lure the walkers out to sea. Madison will go onto the pier once they are lured, and Alicia will go into the boat/zodiac raft. Madison only trusts Alicia with the boat. Alicia tells Madison about the walker who looked like Madison and how upset she was when she thought Madison was dead. Madison says she’s not losing her, and I’m not losing you – ever. Oh, Madison, don’t say that.  The room they’re in is really nice – airy, white and pristine. What a nice resort!

Outside in the parking lot, Alicia has her phone playing music (they have electricity somewhere?) and she and a couple of the hotel guests lure the walkers to her. Upstairs, Elena and Strand let the walkers out of their rooms and lure them.  Elena has her trusty axe. Love it!

Downstairs, Madison has pots – they sound kind of like cowbells when she hits them together. She’s got her own group of walkers that she’s luring. Madison, Elena and Strand wait for Alicia to arrive with her band of walkers – which she does. Madison, Strand, Alicia, and Elena lure all of the walkers to the pier. As soon as they’re all outside, Oscar closes the door behind them so the walkers can’t get back in. Outside, Strand, Alicia and Elena lock a side barred door so the walkers can’t get out that way, and head to the beach where there the raft is waiting. They jump in while Madison continues to lead the walkers off the pier and into the ocean. Jessica’s mom waits in her room and watches the whole procedure go down.

The people have a bit of a problem on the raft but eventually get it going. The currents and waves a bit rough and it looks like the raft wants to capsize.  Madison continues to lure the walkers. They’re fairly close to her at this point. Alicia calls to Madison. Madison turns and runs and jumps off the pier — followed by a bunch a walkers! They all splat into the water as they fall off the pier, like zombified lemmings. They all just keep splatting, one right after the other. Madison makes it to the boat.  Nice scene.

Nick is resting on his bed when he hears a knock at the door.  It’s Luciana and she says she’s too tired to sleep, so Nick invites her in. She looks around the bedroom and sits on the bed. He knows how to say you’re wearing clean socks. He says if he had known this was going to happen, he would have taken Spanish. He says Alicia took Spanish. She’s the golden child, the one with a future. Luciana finds it hard to imagine him with family. Luciana wonders if she’s still alive and Nick says he thinks so.  He explains his dad died before, and Luciana says she’s sorry.

Feast at the hotel! They must be celebrating the lemming parade. They have wine and fancy china and candlelight. And they’re in a super nice hotel.

Strand goes to see Oscar, who standing outside a bedroom door. It must be the room he and Jessica were going to share because Jessica is inside – but dead. Strand commiserates with him about Jessica and Thomas. Oscar won’t let Strand touch her. Strand says he’s sorry. Oscar says it’s not fair. Strand agrees, but says Jessica isn’t his wife, not anymore. Strand asks Oscar to let him help him. Let him help Jessica.

Luciana is resting on the bed – she’s sorry she fell asleep. Nick’s sitting on the floor and tells her not to worry about it. She gets up to go and says goodnight. He asks if he can ask her something before she goes. He says that Alejandro says she’s testing him and he wants to know if that’s true. She walks up to Nick and kisses him. Maybe that’s part of the test.

Back to Oscar and Strand. Strand opens the door to the room and we hear Jessica growling. The bedroom door closes.
