11. Captive, Season Two, Episode Five. Original Air Date = May 8, 2016

We see someone cutting cilantro and shallots and garlic, salt, oil, peppers, and then he throws a chop of some sort into a hot pan. Connor, who is holding Alicia captive, is making food. He’s watching skiing on the TV. Pregnant woman walks in and observes. Connor says that his NY strips are what get people through the day. He made the NY strip for Alicia. Alicia wants to see Travis, but Connor wants to get to know her first. Connor thinks she would be happy here. Connor says that Jack has a sense about her. The TV and electricity go out. He tells her to stay put. Pregnant woman is watching her. Alicia looks at the food and begins to eat. She barely takes two bites and the pregnant woman takes it away from her and locks her inside. Alicia runs down the hall checking locked doors, and finally finds a porthole that leads her to the top of the boat.  She looks around. Their boat is sitting in a dock, but it’s not in the water, it’s on a platform – dry dock. The boat looks like it’s being worked on – maybe some kind of maintenance. Anyway, it’s not in the water, and it’s not going anywhere.

Alicia is incredulous at what she is seeing. Jack says you shouldn’t be here. They discuss Connor. Jack says Connor likes to get to know people one-on-one.  Alicia wants to see Travis. Jack can’t do that. She wants to know if her family made it to land. He asks her if she trusts him, and he says she does. Jack says he’ll find out about her family.

Meanwhile, Daniel has Reed tied up. Daniel is giving him some kind of medical attention – Reed is impaled, after all. Thanks, Madison. But Daniel isn’t being nice about it, and causes Reed extra pain, of course. He does want information, after all. Chris is also in the room, observing. Reed is tormenting Chris by telling him about his own dad and what happens when you cut someone’s Achilles heel. It’s not pretty. And Connor did that to their dad (Connor and Reed are brothers). Reed says he’s the nice one.

Reed says that Connor will come looking for him. And he’s going to be a little bent. Daniel has had enough and makes it hurt. Daniel says ‘sorry’, but he clearly doesn’t mean it.  Reed says you will be. When Connor comes back and finds out what has happened, he’ll take Daniel’s daughter apart.  Daniel and Chris go to leave and Daniel says the ones who are really worth fearing never say how fearful they are. Chris wants to know if Daniel’s going to leave Reed there, and Daniel asks, ‘where is he going to go?’  Ofelia walks up at that moment and sees Daniel’s bloody rags and asks what happened. Daniel says Reed required attention, and she wants to know what kind of attention, and he says medical attention.

Strand is laying down and Daniel comes in with info – Reed is Connor’s brother, he says. And there is a cluster of five boats (but Reed may be lying). Luis comes on board and he says to Strand – should he be the one to tell her, looking at Madison, and Strand says there is no telling her anything.

Alicia is looking at the radar on the other boat. She lifts something out of Jack’s pocket. Wow, Alicia, that was smooth. Jack tells her hat her job is to watch the radar. Jack tells her she’ll be good at it. Trying to track which boats to lure to them. Jack tells her that she has to pick a boat to try to lure.

Travis is in a cage – probably in the hold, or something like it. He’s looking for something to help him escape but he’s not coming up with anything. He finds a book with something in it and I think he’s trying to pick the lock with it, but then someone comes in. Oh wow, it’s Alex. Is she going to help or hurt. Her hair is all puffy now – clearly no hair care products after the zombie apocalypse.

Alex tells Travis about Jake. First Jake was on fire and then he was cold. She ran out of water for him. He looked up at her and she heard the fluid in his chest. He said to her, ‘don’t let me drown’. She killed Jake by strangling him, and then she pushed him over the side. So, she didn’t let him drown, but she let him become a walker. Gee, thanks.

She said that when Connor picked her up, when she was near death’s door herself, he asked her what she had to offer, and she offered the Abigail, and when Connor took it over, she specifically asked to talk to Travis. And here they are. She’s not happy – at all.

Strand is not looking great, but he’s on his feet. Madison is upset, she doesn’t want Strand to send Nick on any more errands. They argue about Nick’s skills. Strand says he saw Nick’s potential the first time he met him.  She tells him not to come between her and her son.

Alicia is looking at the radar and points out a boat. They see something, and that something might be the Abigail. Alicia is really upset now because it’s too soon for it to be back, meaning she doesn’t think that Connor let her family make it to land. She wants to know where her family is. They fight, it gets physical and they knock each other down. Jack confesses he doesn’t know what’s up. She wants to find her family and he says he’ll go with her.  She’s okay with that plan.

Nick is putting the pieces of a gun together down below and Madison isn’t happy. She thinks he’s getting too familiar with guns. She doesn’t want him to make her worry – promise? He doesn’t promise.

Meanwhile, Jack tells Alicia about 5 boats and they can take one, and make their escape.

Travis wants to know what Connor and his group want from Alicia and himself. Alex says they’re putting your girl to work – everyone has a job. Travis gently says Jake was going to turn. Alex talks about how Travis left her on the raft. She says Travis knew what to do, he knew what the right thing to do was, and he chose the other.  Ouch.  Of course, she killed at least two people herself, so we have a case here of pots and kettles.

Daniel and Strand – they’re found Connor’s boat. and they see the little cluster of tiny boats next to it. Am I the only one who was surprised that Connor’s monster fishing boat is in dry dock?

Travis tells Alex that he tries to stay out of the violence for his son’s sake because his son is watching him.  Travis confesses that he killed Liza just like she killed Jake – for the same reasons, so he knows the costs. He apologizes for all of them. Connor told her that he could use her.

Reed is coughing – he looks horrible and will probably die. Chris is outside the door, ‘guarding’ Reed. Daniel had told Chris not to engage – and he’s engaging. Reed asks, ‘how are you doing sunshine?’  Reed says he doesn’t look like his sister, or Madison for that matter. He thinks that Chris and he have a lot in common. ‘Where’s your mom? Yeah. Let me tell you something – orphan to orphan – these fake family members will put you down.’ Nick walks up at this point and shuts the door. He asks Chris if he’s okay. Chris blames himself – he froze – he wants to make up for what he did. Nick says what were you going to do, shoot a pregnant woman? ‘Come on, I wouldn’t shoot a pregnant woman.’ Nick is trying to make Chris feel better, but Chris still blames himself.

Back to Travis. Alicia and Jack come to him. Travis and Alicia both ascertain that they’re both okay. Alicia says the Abigail is back too soon, so they couldn’t be back on land. Alicia tells Travis of her and Jack’s plan. Alicia wants to get them out of this mess that she created. Travis says no, Alex is here and she ratted them out.  It’s not Alicia’s fault that Travis and Alicia are prisoners here. Jack says they have to go – now. They leave. Alicia promises to come back for Travis.

Madison and Strand on the boat. Connor calls and wants to know why the Abigail hasn’t docked. He thinks his people are still in control, and so is surprised when Madison gets on the phone. Madison says you can have your brother back when I get my family back.  She wants to trade Reed for her family. She wants to do it in one hour. Connor says ‘okay, I’ll play.’ Nick volunteers to do the trade, but Madison says she’ll do it. They hear a gunshot.

Chris has the gun and he’s looking in the room where they’re holding Reed. Looks like the trade is off. Chris says that Reed was going to turn and he walks out. The others look inside the room. Yep, Reed is dead. Chris shot him in the lower face and jaw. It was enough to kill him. But was it enough to prevent him from becoming a walker?

Madison and Chris are discussing Reed’s death. She wants to know how he knew, and he said he did. Seems like Chris wanted to kill Reed – just cuz, or just cuz AND because he was feeling guilty, and is using the ‘he’s turning’ story as a cover for his real motives. Madison takes the gun out of his hands. Chris wants to know if he screwed everything up. Yes, Chris, you did. Madison doesn’t say that, instead she says not to worry, we’ll get Travis back. Chris says you know I had to, right? She says yes, and Chris says thank you. It’s not clear if Madison really believes him.

Travis is being bound, and Connor says your time here is done. He tells Jack to get the girl – Jack is surprised and says what about their plan? Connor says plans have changed.

Nick and Ofelia are cleaning up Reed’s room. There’s blood all over the wall behind him from the gunshot. Ofelia says Chris said he was going to turn. She has doubts that he was gong to turn, but he has, in fact, turned. Daniel impales Reed to the wall. He’s a walker now. Daniel says ‘not yet’ as Reed reaches for him. So Chris completely missed Reed’s brain.

Daniel immobilizes Reed by binding his hands and putting a bag over his head.  A voice asks Daniel, in Spanish, to take the gun. It seems that he is hallucinating and hearing voices. Ofelia comes in to help and asks Daniel if he’s okay. He says yeah, and Ofelia helps to guide Reed out of the room.

On the dry dock boat, Jack is looking for Alicia. She’s hiding in a cupboard in the kitchen. I guess that particular make of fishing boat has adult-sized cabinets!

On the Abigail, Nick says he should go – he’s expendable – and Madison won’t let him. Nick asks her why she won’t let him go, and she says ‘because you want to.’ She’s on the raft, with walker-Reed. She’s got him fairly far away from her, and I don’t blame her.

On the dock, Connor has Travis with a bag on his head.

Madison and Reed push off.  Strand and Nick, up on board, see Travis but not Alicia. Madison is on the raft nearing Connor’s boat. Pregnant woman (Vida?) and Alicia confront each other. They fight. Alicia traps her in the cage that previously held Travis.

On land, the exchange is made. Connor and his crew push Travis toward Madison, and Madison pushes Reed toward Connor – after she unbinds his hands. Connor pulls the bag off of Reed’s head, and sees that Reed is a walker. Too late – Reed and Connor grapple, but Reed takes a big chunk out of Connor’s arm. It looked a little fake, to tell you the truth. Travis fights one guy, and then another. One of Connor’s crew members gets bitten as well. Alicia comes running out of the cabin, but she’s on the top deck, and can see the fight below on the dock.  Jack confronts her. She says her family is there, and they came back for her. He asks is she’s just going to leave. Madison sees Alicia, and Travis and Madison run to the raft.  Jack discusses Alex with Alicia, and how her family left Alex. Jack wants Alicia to stay – they can take off together. Alicia apologizes to Jack and jumps in the ocean. She surfaces, and Travis calls her name and pulls her onto the raft. Jack is left on board his boat. He doesn’t know yet what has happened to Connor and Reed, and two of the crew members. One crew member, plus Alex, and Vida are who is left by my count.

Travis, Madison, and Alicia motor the raft toward the Abigail.
